would you still suggest recording in the middle of the room, for say the acoustic?

Well, I am certainly no expert, but I usually try and keep them atleast somewhat away from the wall. To keep the early reflections from smearing the sound. Kinda like natural pre-delay. My suggestion is to listen to how it sounds in different spots, pick the best few, and record a small clip in each and see what sounds best.

thanks dude, ya just planned my sunday. Im looking forward to this! In terms of mic placement....i can use 2 large diaphragm condensors if necessray. How far from the bridge and 12th fret shud they be?

I usually did them just far enough out as not to be in the way of the guitarist. You can also do them 1 foot out, 3 feet out, whatever. Experiment! :D

I think there is probably a tutorial in RAMI's link that should address acoustic guitar micing techniques - theres a million ways to do it. If not, search this forum.

Most importantly - post your new samples when you get something worked up!!! It's great when you can hear a mix progress.
