Hi!

I peeled the Audio Technica AT3035 to see what it ate.
Here's the result.

There's no components (except the roll-off and pad switches) under the PCB.
No text on the transformer.

Surface Mount Devices, Modders nightmare.

Yeah, I dissassembled practically everything as a kid. A moped was maybe the most unpleasant ones. :D
Anyway, I'm a newbie here and there are definitely more skilled and experienced poeple around here who have done these things hundreads of times before. And they know exactly what they are doing. I wish I was one of them.

Taken apart an AT2020?

Hey Lale - I'm trying to find out if there's any difference between the AT2020 and the AT3035 (beside the lo-cut filter and pad switch). Have you taken apart an AT2020?

I haven't seen the inners of 2020 and I don't own one. Anyway, there are bigger differencies between the two than just the switches. Fex 2020 having a smaller diaphragm. Chassis is a bit different and specs are somewhat diverging.

You can check the specs and compare them here:
AT2020:

At3035:

I haven't heard the AT2020 so I can't really tell how they compare in practice.

:D

Oh yeah, I can see the poop, but I can't smell it.

Ok, let's face it, AT3035 isn't the best mic, but it's doing it's job quite well. Price <-> quality -factor is sometimes more important than just pure quality. These are called as compromises and sometimes it works. I have no complains with AT3035, a wardrobe and and a crappy acoustic. When it comes to more professional stuff, i might put it aside.

*snif*..i think that... no, it was just a fart.
