I just recently purchased a Nady mk1001 guitar wireless unit from Guitar Satan ($99 deal). I thought I was getting a really good deal for I used to have one of those old 501 units and that was great. The problem now is that I get my sound compressed big time before it even hit the amp. Makes the sound flimsy and always clips to a nasty distortion on clean channel. Is this compression problem inherent to just these new wireless unit? Is this the reason why GC is selling these babies cheap? Any suggestion on which brand of wireless unit I can get without changing my sound (no compression or any coloring)? Thanks for any future help infos.

Stratman, the term "you get what you pay for" is especially true in the world of wireless. The unit you purchased, though it will work,... it will also sound like crap. I learned this the hard way  I went though a couple of Nadys and cheaper Shures until finding Sennhieser. Though not cheap, it has by far been the best in sound quality of them all.

No way around it, you'll have to bite the bullet and spend the extra money on a good UHF unit. Sennheiser, Shure, and AKG come to mind. I use an AKG WR2000........very good range and with the loZ out from the reciever, I get a clean signal.

I remember I had a Nady almost a decade ago that I thought was pretty decent.

However, recently I needed a new wireless unit and the Nadys were terrible. After demoing a few, I settled on the Audio Technica 1400 for about $300.

I can still tell the difference between the wireless and a straight cable, but the 1400 has good range and sufficient bandwidth to sound good when playing out.

i have an audio technica 1400 and it rules...way better than the shure comparable unit. The receiver is all metal and comes with rackears...not that cheap plastic shure uses.
