I recently converted my Fender Twin to a head and speaker box, as the thing was getting too heavy and I'm getting too old, As far as I'm concerned it was the best move ever, it tightened up the sound which was already brilliant. I am now thinking of making another cabinet with 2 x 12inch Eminence Kapton bobbin 30 watt speakers.
Has anyone tried them, I've never heard them only read about them.
Thanxx in anticipation.

Eminence speakers are pretty low on the speaker food chain - of course, that might be what you're looking for.

My suggestion for a great 2 x 12" cab would be a couple of 30w Celestions - and they won't break your back or bank account, either!

thumbs down for eminence. This is what they put in stock fender twins nowadays which is totally gay. If you want a killer speaker, I would go with the Electro-voice speakers. I can't remember the model but they run like $200 for a 12 inch.

Celestions are good too.

I knew that Eminence were in the Fender already and I love the amp so I just figured that Eminence were the way to go, I have another amp with Electrovoice and it has had an amazing run.
I had heard that the Eminence Kapton are a great bluesy sound, I know nothing about speakers whatsoever. now I'm even more confused.

Celestions are the only speakers for guitar!
If u want a blusey sound then I would guess u would want a celestion out of thier vintage series! The Silver back celestions are pretty good as well! take a look

I only just ordered a Trace Elliot guitar cabinet yesterday with Celestion silver backs in! I dunno what they sound like yet til it arrives!

I agree with C_R_A_ZZZ
Celestions are the way to go. EV's are ok but their mids are way to pronounced, they (to me at least) don't have the clarity of the Celestions.

If you want conventional wisdom, get green-backed celestions. If you want tone and power handling ,get an EV12L.

What about Carvin?

They make some killer speakers - We loaded up an old Ampeg 4x12 bass cab with Carvins and ran a Fender RockPro head through it - sound great!

The 12" ElectroVoice is a great speaker - I have one in my Boogie Cabinet. It weighs a ton and the sound is very 'tight', which works for me, but your post was about less weight, thus my Celestion suggestion.

I ran a stereo rig for a couple of years and a 2x12 celestion cab was one side of it - it sounds great.
