Music stores in the metro area
I can vouch for Action Music in Arlington as being one of the more interesting shops to go to. None of the mass-market crud you'll see in the chain stores, just nice, quality guitars and amps. Plus, it's right there in VA, not too far from where your meetings will be. I would pick this as the place to go if you have limited time.
Atomic is an interesting store, you really have to look at everything to see if there's anything good. Sometimes I'll see something nice, sometimes it's a store full of junk. But that's the fun of it.
Chucks does get crazy on say, a Saturday, but if you plan to go say, in the morning on a weekday (not Friday either!), you will have a better experience.
Southworth is supposed to be quite the spectacle...I understand he has a fantastic roped-off wall of vintage amps in the back. That would be fun to see too.
Rolls is still open, I was in there last week....not much, I think they are trying to be a mail order store. They seem to have lost some of the major brands. I never had a good experience there.
Guitar Center....they're not particularly interesting, at least to me...except for the overpriced occasional used item.
