any suggestions on good or decent guitar processing software? amp emulation, distortion, eq, delay and such. free would be nice. or under 100$. i'm using soundblasterlive, cakewalk,wd 80gig hd, and an amd 1700 cpu.

I haven't found any software that does credible amp emulation or distortion IMO.

There are many plugins or plugin suites that do an excellent job with effects such as delay, reverb, EQ, etc. etc. Many can be downloaded for free. Check out http://www.directxfiles.com/plugins.htm for DirectX plugs and you could start here http://www.vstcentral.com/ for VST plugs.

For your budget I would get a Johnson J-Station for amp emulation, which is a POD-like device (i.e. hardware, not software). It can be had for $99 these days and would do all your amp emulation as well as most guitar effects which are built in. It's very tweakable via its PC-based editor and can't be beat for the price. You would still be able to download free plugins to supplement it and stay within your budget.

Im using Alien Conections Re-valver. It was good bang for buck

The advantage of software is not having to commit to a "sound"and being able to run multiple instances of the plug.
The disadvantage is it just does'nt sound as good.
I would suggest the J-station also.Ideally you could split the signal and record a "dry" muted track so you could go back and change the sound if you are'nt happy with the effected track.

I will third the J-station...along with J-edit I am one happy camper.

I used to have this thing from a russian guy ... GuitarFX and it was cool in my very early stages of computer oriented guitar amp modelling stuff. I haven't tried it in a longtime though, maybe someone can give it a whirl and see how it is.

one program with a REALLY GOOD amp sim is Magix Samplitude. it gives you a choice of 5 different amps and 8 or 9 speaker setups.
downside is that samplitude costs about $1000. but still it's the only amp sim i've ever heard that sounds real, i mean like a real amp and not some cheezy digital imitation.
also works great on synths.
