I have been reading some posts on guitar panning, I currently pan lead guitar hard right (except solos) and rhythm hard left. If I add a couple more tracks and pan them say at the 10 and 2 position to fatten the mix up would I be recording 4 separate tracks with 4 separate guitar tones?? Or could I use the same tone for the right side and the same for the left with just two different tones. Or does all the guitars just make a sh*t pile out of a song.
Depending on the song of course.

Thanks,

Personally I record 3 guitar tracks per side and pan them to 80, 70, and 60 L & R. The reason I don't pan hard left and right is because thats where I pan a stereo mix of my drum tracks. I record much of my guitar direct with a POD which necessitates the need for more than 1 or 2 tracks per side.

thanks for the response,

do you use different tones for each track? I also use a line 6 pod pro. how do you like it?

stero mix of drums? Elaborate a little more on that if you would. bass at 12 snare at 3 ........................ is that what you meant?

Thanks again,

Well I like the pod if you drive the hell out of it through tubes on the way to the sound card. If there is any way to put an SM57 on a good sounding amp though, I would recommend that first!

Yes, I use software called PC Drummer, and I also play drums in with a triton rack keyboard CPU. When doing that more often than not I end up with a pair of mono tracks which by recomendation of an excellent studio in the orange county California area, I pan hard right and left, sqeezing the guitars in a bit.

For a sample try this, it may not be your style, and its not finished product yet, but you'll get the idea.
