Quick Question. Would I be able to plug my guitar into a bass head ... without damaging either the bass amp or the guitar. Is there any mismatch of current or anything crazy like that. I don't want to try it with a risk of ruining anything.

My friends giving me his dads old tube Univox 1245 bass head with a cabinet. I'm excited but I haven't used it yet and I would like to use it with my guitar. I read about someone using it for guitar so I'm optimistic. Thanks for the help guys, Erockrazor :)

do it

this is what chuck berry has been doing his whole career ,he`s been playing through a fender showman head which can be for git or bass and a 2x15 speaker cab ,if it sounds good keep doing it ,you dont need to buy a guitar head
you might find what you have really good(there is always pressure on people to keep buying stuff and search for the "ultimate" sound. dont get suckered)

Running guitar through a bass amp is fairly common, don't worry you aren't likely to damage anything. Bass guitar through a regular guitar amp isn't advisable though.

Suprising enough some modern tube amps were modelled after the fender bassman.

I would not encourage the opposite (plugging a bass into a guitar amp). Not so much the dammage factor but the suck factor :D

Alright great guys! Thanks for your help, I cant wait to play this thing. Id like to get a little overdrive pedal or something to go along with it but we'll see how it sounds. Maybe I'll post some clips. Thanks alot, Erockrazor

Do it. When I was at school, the other guitarist in my band didn't really have a useable amp, so he used to plug into this big fuckin Carlsbro bass amp, and whack the gain up full. It sounded fucking sweet. Really dirty but clean tone, punchy as fuck. The kind of sound that would beat you black and blue and fuck every woman you know. I wish I had that amp. The school probably let fall into disrepair and threw it away by now.

it gives a damn good sound, im a bit of a metal head and i was at my uncles place and playing through my cousins bass amp with my guitar (epiphone SG) through a ds-1 distortion pedal. it sounded really thick, even though he had a torn cone. i suggest buying a guitar equaliser pedal however because the EQ knobs on your bass head are suitable for the freq range of the bass, which is naturally an octave lower than a guitar. you can get a sweet controlled sound through that then have that thick low-end you get out of a bass amp. good luck to you, id love to be in your shoes right now :)

Adam Jones from Tool uses a bass amp I think on the Aenima and Lateralus records. He has a 3 amp setup, where the signal through his guitar is routed through a Marshall bass amp, a Diesel VH4 head, and I think a bognor amp, I might be wrong. These are all run into Mesa Boogie 4 x 12's then and the sound is blended accordingly at mix down. I think the bass amp helps add a lot of lows to go with the crunch of the VH4. Anyhow, to answer your question - yes, possible, might get a unique sound!

Larry LaLonde also uses a bass amp mixed with a guitar amp. I think it's an Ampeg and a Mesa Boogie, but I don't rightly remember.
