Considering the apparent "visual" variations that occured on the genuine Oktavas (OktaBa/Oktava, ASM/No ASM, Serial #/No Serial #), I'd be inclined to only rely on the physical and internal characteristics if I were trying to identify what their origins are.

I ordered some Oktavas from Turnkey and they are real Oktavas. Just to let everybody know.
I spoke to the manager of Turnkey to find out who was suppling them before i bought them. He told me they we're getting them from KMR.
Incidentaly in this months Sound on Sound mag there is an advert from KMR which contains the 012 (page 179)

I just purchased a pair of capsules on eBay from Ken Heaton of Recording Services/Oktava USA. They are the genuine article Russian made, plus very clean and well cared for. This was particularly noticable compared to the original capsules that came from GC a few years back.
These were listed as a "hand matched pair" but they actually looked slightly different. The small rim inside the shell around the back of capsule was not the same. However, I did a null test with both mics recording the same source from the same position, then phase inverted one track. Sure enough, almost nothing audible when the two tracks combined. These capsules are extremely close to one another. The minor difference may be the mics' preamps, which I doubt are matched that closely.

Than totally unrelated - In SOS this month KMR have put in an ad. Showing they sell Oktavs, AKG, Shure etc... But it was a conincidece. Has anybody heard of KMR?

No... but I did a quick web search and it looks like KMR Audio is a dealer in London. It looks like KMR carrys a nice line of mics, but I don't know if the Oktava MC-012's are the counterfeits or not, and they don't say?

Mine came today - they're real. Sound terrific. All documentation was in Russian though...and no graphs diagrams to show pattern or response

Glad to hear you had success. It's nice to know I could get some from Turnkey if needed, now they're available to those in the UK.

Pants, what does that mean then for ranges such as Oktava and ADK which are pretty specific to Turnkey?

I dunno - I was talking to the manager in Leeds and he reckoned they'd be keeping ADK, but not everything from Turnkey would be coming across. I think they're closing Turnkey's store in London, or at least clearing everything out and re-doing the place. I guess it remains to be seen.

OK cheers, so how long have I got.... if Sound Control get ahold of ADK they'll probably charge £1000 for an ADK TL - do you know how much longer they'll be selling?
