Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue

Fender Blackface Champ reissue from the early 80's

Mesa/Boogie Subway Rocket with matching 1x12 extention cab

Marshall 2x12 cab, I sometimes run my Deluxe Reverb or Boogie thru it

2 Fender Quad Reverbs

Marshall JCM 800 50 watt head with Marshall 4x12 slant cab

Marshall JCM 900 50 watt head with Marshall 2x12 cab

:)

clean sound = roland JC120
crunch sound = peavy transtube 212 or marshall JCM800

Johnson J-Station all the way! :D I can get the sound of almost any amp out there, no need to mic it to record, headphones instead of a cabinet, sounds great! Ok, may not be the best thing for a gig, but I don't play gigs. :p

i voted "vox"
i just love the ac30 tone

i have a mesa boogie and i like it very much also
i would love to get the chance to try an Ubershall

Just got my Randall Switchmaster 150 of Ebay for 35 bucks!! 120 watts of pure unadulterated shit!! WOOHOO!! I am achieving tones of such absolute sucktasticness that I had never thought possible. And the main cable is nice and rusty!! YAY!!!!!!!!! :D

Fender Super 60 and Prosonic...

Hey.

My 2 cents:

I love my Fender Super 60 all-tube head (kinda rare - you see more of the combos). This is a great amp to check out of you're into a straightforward 2 channel Tube amp. And you can get them at a relatively cheap price. Early 90's red knob job. I run my head thru a Marshall 2x12, and it sounds great.

However, my friend's Fender Prosonic is the best amp I've ever heard. It's also one of the loudest. When he bought it, we A/B'd it with non-vintage Vibroverbs, Vibroluxes, Deluxes, DeVille's and Twins, and the Prosonic won hands down. The reverb is sick! And you can regulate/throttle the power section, so you can run at 30, 40 or 60 watts. It's like having a built-in power soak. And unlike other Fender combos, this amp has 2 10" Celestions that just sound awesome. It's like a Custom shop amp at half the price. Check this amp out.

What a great example of 'your milage may vary."
I had a Pro-Sonic with the green snakeskin covering. What a beautiful looking amp. It was so fine that I wanted to like it but, for me, it just sucked. It was lifeless sounding and just sounded wooden no matter what I did with it. I used it for about 6 months desperately trying to find it's sweet spot but ultimately I sold it.
Don't misunderstand ........ I'm NOT saying it's no good. I'm just saying for me it was no good and I think it's fascinating how different people get such different results from the same amp.

I LOVE my Mesa Boogie Stereo Studio preamp. I've used it for 16 years, and it still sounds great. I was using Boogie back when everyone was using the Marshall JCM800. It's nice to see everyone jump on the Mesa bandwagon with the Rectifier, but most of those people are just following the crowd and still don't know a good sound when they hear it. I still have a JCM800, but it sucked back in the day, and it sucks now. Gotta ad a TON of outboard gear to get it to sound decent.
I say again....I LOVE MY BOOGIE! I have played thru many Boogie amps, and have yet to come across one that didn't sound good (keeping in mind they all sound different).
P.S. I have yet to find an amp "modeler" that sounds like anything but shit, including Line6. The Vamp has some nice clean sounds, but I still believe there is no way to record an electric guitar direct, and no matter how much these "copy" amps claim they have a "boogie" sound.....they don't! Not even close.

Prosonic...

The green snakeskin...I think that's one of the custom shop amps, isn't it?

Anyway...you're experience is very interesting. I'll give you this...that amp has to be pushed to sound great. Even when running at the lowest power setting (30 or 35 watts, I think), it's still a little TOO loud. It would have been better if they gave you a 15 watt option - this would have been much more helpful for recording.

But at volume, that amp stands out in a band like no other amp I've ever heard. And again, the reverb is outstanding.

Thanks for the feedback - very interesting!

Ya' know ........ in 1973 I played on a ( then new ) Mesa Mark I and it's still one of the best amps I've ever used.
I've been checking out their current model line and I'm leaning toward the Mark I or the Nomad.

Yes I believe it was. I think the retail on it was about $2400. So maybe it's different than the version you're talking about.
But you're right ......... it's way interesting how I'll hear someone else get a great sound out of a rig that I don't like and then they have the same reaction to my amp.
For instance ......... I detest modelers for live work but I do hear some guys that get a good sound out of them. I don't think it's the sound so much as the responsiveness of the amp. I find them to be too restricted dynamically but if that's not an issue then they seem to work just fine for others.

I'm an Ampeg guy myself (4 different 35 year old amps ) but some of my friends tried them and found them to be too "middy" ........ but they're not when I use them so go figure.

have you tried the road king? that thing is a BEAST. 4 channels, selectable speaker outputs per channel, selectable rectifier per channel (tube or sillicon diode), selectable output tubes per channel (2, or 4 i think), per-channel reverb settings (though i think the reverb is the only weak point in the whole amp), selectable effect loops per channel (1, 2, or both).

its the most versatile amp in terms of features and flexibility that i've ever seen. the ONLY reason i won't buy one is because the reverb isn't nearly as full as your old black or silverface fender. no over-saturated surf tones coming out of the road king. also the switching of the reverb from channel to channel is delayed... and that kind of sucks.

if they fixed the reverb... good bye $3,000+, hello road king.

And I'd just have to have it in purple suede!
:)

marshall heads with mesa boogie cabs.
then there's my first marshall. i love marshalls really.

I picked up a new amp for the studio today. A Rivera Pubster 25. It's 25 watts, two 6V6s, single 10". I'd been looking at Cornfords, Emerys and the like but I think this is the one. It was $700 out the door.

nice!

I bought a rivera quiana 410 early this year...mouth just waters every time I play it. I've played it live in a club all year, but haven't even got to do any recording with it yet...one day..one day lol. Nice snatch Track.
