The SM's are great for snare, while the Beta sucks for it. The Beta is awesome on my voice, while the SM's suck. It's all in the application.

.....and the instrument, and the player, and the room, and the.........

The Beta57 is actually generally regarded as better for snare because it can handle higher SPL than the SM.

On the guitar cab, I put a EV RE38n/d up close and a TLM-103 further back.
The RE38 is a fantastic mic. If you can find one second hand......... GRAB IT!

OK didnt see this one recommended. Electrovoice-635a , its an omni dynamic usually goes for 50-60 bucks used. I own 2 and they always seem to make their way onto the guitar cab ahead of the shure sm57.

Pink noise - I need some

Where can I get some pink noise samples? As Fletch suggested, I wanna try it. Anything online? Can anyone email me a loopable 30 second clip?
Thanks
Paul

guitar mics come in all sizes makes and models...sometimes, an SM57 is ALL that will work...a closed back cab will require a mike that is a bit tighter with a more defined top-end since they themselves tend to reproduce lows much better than openbacked cabs....stick a nice LD condenser out a couple feet from a Marshall cab and tape a pzm to the back...blend to taste...not always a working setup but you lowtuners might like it a lot...

My all-time favorite mic for any guitar setup is the Sennheiser MD409...its the daddy of that bastardchild e609 mic....these ,however, arent $69 anywhere...

for you combo recorders, try an MS array in the back with the mic-du-jour in the front.blend to taste...

I always thought that RE20's sounded good on Fender amps...or is it just me?

hey!

I've been recording for a good while, and i've decided i may aswell invest in some good mics, Im just wondering what mic yous all prefare to use on a Guitar amp,

im looking around the ?100 - ?150 mark
Out of my small mic collection(5=3 sm57's,1 beta 52,1 EV N/D767a) I like 2 57's pointed at the 2 bottom speakers(4X12 cab) and pulled back about a foot(11 in.) to pick up the entire speaker like warhead was saying.(it sounds much better to me than up on the grill)Two 57's would be about in your budget or even less used. nueve...I've read several times that the PG's are cheap/crap mics.I don't know first hand though.

Up your budget by a little and see if you can get a used SM7 for under $180. That mic kills on guitar cabs.
Yeah...that mic is on my shopping list as well. :)

Sennheiser e609 Silver... $99.... Do some research on it. Everyone loves it. Me too !! :)
