I'm a guitarist and I seem to fiddle with the EQ on my amp endlessly trying to get a tone that's crunchy but not too crunchy and clear sounding but not too touchy and I can't seem to ever come up with one way to set it up that's just right (I'm referring to a distorted amp here, clean is easy). I'm kind of curious how some of you set the EQ on different amps. I did see something on the web before about EQing an amp to the room you're in but I don't remember where I found it or how that worked but if there's a good way to do that I'd be interested in that info as well. Any help is much appreciated.

You could go down the route of a dedicated EQ pedal...most amp eqs are pretty basic. Check out a Boss GE 7. For a biting crunch sound, I kill the mids, and run my bass and treble at the max. This'll also sound good if you're a bedroom guitarist. Also, you're tone controls on your guitar will be a factor; everyone seems to lash them on full! What amp and guitar have you?

It could also be your amp/tubes/speakers causing you problems. I just swapped tubes and then speakers recently and they each made a huge difference.
