IF you guessed mackie, then you are correct. I would never have guessed mackie though. I emailed him thinking he used a ua610 or a big boy like that and thinking he had some distressor in there somewhere, but no. This awesome sound comes from a mackie board.

he actually had everything going into the mackie board.

Not too surprizing. I've heard lots of good stuff that went through a Mackie.

what else had he used on his vox? outboard? what kind of media did he record to? all this stuff matters...

Wonder what the mic was........

I looked up the site. A mixture of simple and not so simple....cool stuff though. Makes me feel good about my mackie MDR and 24.8:D

Nice link, Web!

I wonder why did he used only the pres on the 24.8 (which are not as good as the VLZs) instead of the UA w/ a distressor (or something else) in the chain. Kinda hard to believe, but...

in the email he sent me , he said that he has only just got the ua and the distressor so he did not have them when he did that.

I think he was using an inexpensive mic cos he mentioned just upgrading to a rode tube.

anyone remember this?

I am looking for a mackie vlz-pro mixer, if anyone has one they want to trade or sell for cheap.

I have one- what are you willing to trade or buy it for?

It depends on what you have. I am thinking about the 14 channel one. Is this what you have?

I picked up a 1202 VLZ pro last week at Music go round, still in the plastic and box and everything for $300 out the door. Not the greatest deal, but I saved about $100 and I now have a perfect setup for headphone mixes. I bought a pair of Sennheiser 580's (ultra nice) for myself, and I am going to buy a little 5 headphone amp box, and I'll pretty much be ready to track. So close now, so close. Gonna buy 3 pairs of cheapo closed headphones too, for everyone else. The Mackies arent bad, they just arent great. Not alot of "air" or "warmth" to them, and thier mix bus sucks. Perfect for tom mics and headphone mixes though, for sure.

Oh, my idea was that this thing has 4 preamps, and like 8 stereo ins... with a bass DI (countryman), that gives me an effective 5 inputs for headphone monitors... 1 overhead, 1 guitar, 1 guitar, 1 vocal, and 1 bass... i can add a cheapo like the ART TPS sytem and get 2 more inputs into the stereo ins for headphone mixes later if I need to. My plan is to track this way with totally diferent preamps on the drums.

optimus 40s from radioshack. $45 each and sound exactly like ns10ms. Closed too.
