If everything goes right 
, which includes our housing association dissolvement and selling off of the association properties (which were supposed to close months ago 
, now set up to close this month 
), we should be getting a nice sized check in a month or less. And I was thinking to myself if the wife lets me have $1000 of the check (check should be 2-3000)....actually I am shaking in my boots thinking what I could get for $1000. But if I had 1000 of it I think I would want something that will last, something that will make a impact on vocals recorded with a low output ribbon, and something that I don't fear clients seeing that I have "it"; which brings us to the GT suPRE. I know its a vastly stripped down viper, but man for a little more per channel, ok a lot more per channel then the GT brick, I could or atleast should have two channels of world class pres would I not? I know speculation for most here as the thing isn't out yet...buttt with the features it does have I think it would fit the ribbon mics that I have, and I would have it forever, and clients would oogle over it not even knowing what it does or doesn't do. I mean I am not going to have the type of clients that expect to see neve or API, but if I do have something of value that I can show them and say see this is what I will be tracking your vocals thru, that would say something about my comitment to quality, wouldn't it? Maybe I should just take my part of the money and do smaller things that could help out now and in the long run. Maybe add a SM7b and some other one or two channel pre. I just bought a UAD-1 loaded with most of their good plugs, and I am just trying to take the next steps of what I have/need/want. BTW, this is just a hobby that I hope to get better at, no one here is saying I have to make X amount of money in Y amount of time. I am going slow as possible that my gear lusting heart can take. UAD-1 was a big step for me, now I am wondering if a "world class pre" would be good or even great step for me. I know after the pre upgrade/s I would really need to do a interface/converter upgrade, and then monitors might have to go, then etc. etc.
What do you all think about the suPRE? Anyone have hands on it yet? Follow the link in my sig to see what my humble setup includes.
BTW, I record chirstian pop vocals for the most part. I might have a trumpet to record soon, some keyboards, etc. But most is just vocals to music tracks on cd or shudder even on cassette tape
