Hey.I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about this model.Im sorry I dont know how to post the link to youtube but if you search for Grundig Tk 46,you'll know what im Talking about. The reason Im asking is that there is one for sale on ebay in my hometown and Im kind of interested. Its a tube reel to reel and looks to be in good shape, even though the owner is saying they're not too sure about the condition of the heads.I could easily drop by to take a look.It has been listed as a 4 track tape recorder.Does this mean over dubs can be done on it?.Thats mainly my reason of interest.
Any help would be appreciated.Once again sorry about not posting the link.
Thanks

It's a 50-year old stereo deck.

By 4-track, it means that it has two stereo pairs. You can record on one side of the tape, turn it over and record on the other side like a cassette. You cannot play all 4 tracks simultaneously.

It might just about be possible to do some kind of sound-on-sound thing, especially if you can switch record on and off independently per-track like the Revox machines, but you'd have to be pretty masochistic to try something like that IMHO.

Bear in mind also that the machine will almost certainly need to be cleaned and repaired. All the rubber components will need to be checked and most likely replaced. In other words, it's going to be something of a labour of love.

Frankly, I'd pass on it unless you really know what you're doing.
