Does anyone have experience of recieving FedEx parcels from abroad outside the US?

I recently received a box of three mics insured for £600 which I was to repair and send back. FedEx decided that I needed to pay them £112 before the would give me the parcel for tax fees and for their "holding charge". When I refused to pay they ended up getting the debt collectors!

Is there any way we can ensure that this won't happen? Could we declare zero value on the tax declarations?

OUCH! Thats silly money! Maybe Chance could use USPS for international orders as in UK at least this just gets "transfered" to our national service (royal mail).

Depends how much of a pain this would be for Chance, but paying that sort of money to FedEx isn't desirable!!!

Hey Randy,

I entered my address info into the user interface, but I don't see any "Submit" button, so I don't think it took. After I filled in the last text box I was just kind of left hanging with nothing more to click on.

The reason for this was last night I accidentally made the window without scrollbars and non-resizeable... Of which I have received at least 1 nasty-gram about over on PSW...which I will repond to once I calm down a bit...

I have now made this window with scrollbars and resizeable, please try again...

The reason the guy over on PSW is having issues is because he's held the [Crtl] button down while rolling his mouse wheel (try this sometime on any website, not just mine)...and for some reason he thinks all of this is my fault...

Oh well, like I said, I'll respond to that later today when I calm down a bit... Not only am I going to respond to it on PSW, I'm gonna respond to it here as well with screen shots of what this guy is seeing...and why...

Sorry you had these troubles RawDepth. Please try again and let me know if this last update fixed the issue you were having.

Thanks,

Randy

Chance,

PLEASE consider using the USPS for o/seas customers as from past experience their service is better and because the parcels remain in each countries postal network, the risk of facing additional exorbitant Fedex or UPS import charges over and above normal customs duties is reduced.

How soon will actual payments be due?

Have you registered yet? Do it--it's the best way to get the info you want--about the mics and preamps involved, and the costs associated, and the dates and deadlines. You won't be forced to commit to buy anything by registering.

The answer to your question is spelled out in great detail on the User Console, which you can access after you register.

Depending on how much goes out of the country. Right now, to make this process quick, everything is automated thru my NAMM/FedEx account. To change now would involve doing all the paperwork manually for each order.

No.

chance is running a real business and he can't lie on customs forms. He's also an honest guy, so he's not gonna lie...

But I'm not chance, so pay no attention.

If you declare no value, you thus can't insure the package. Which is something I am never willing to do for anything of reasonable value . . .

I really don't think there is anything wrong with marking these as gifts. After,, all aren't they?

I'm not meaning to be a wet blanket, but it's not like your shipping one or two items. Your operation is a little bigger than that.

Santa Claus?? LOL
Santa Claus must have a pretty good lawyer :D

Seriously, though, to be properly advised on this, you'd need local representation in each non-US country you're shipping to, to see whether the customs laws reach back past the immediate shipper, what the impact of declaring gift status even is to begin with in this context, whether there are value/volume limits, etc. - no fun. But if you can find Mr. Claus's esteemed counsel, I bet you'd get it cleared up in a second.

BTW Randy, did you recieve that PM from me? I realise you're probably flooded at the moment and I should have made the "subject" clearer.

It's very difficult to say, "Gift" with a straight face with a loaded PayPal account.

On the other hand, if chance didn't charge any of the foreign customers for the equipment, gift might be a little more plausible.
