Chance,

Is there any possibility of getting approximate weights of each microphone/pre (including packaging) so that we can get an idea of the postal charges that we'll need to keep in mind.

Cheers
Gareth

Thats a tall order. the weight, quantity, dimensions of each order/box, and destination, will differ with each order and would be hard to estimate.

Sorry I didn't mean it quite like that!:o

I just meant say for example the 1200 comes in a box with PSU and shockmount and thats 3kg then if we were buying two 1200's we'd know our order would come to 6kg plus a bit extra for the packaging. Then we ourselves could total up our order weight (estimate of course) and get a quote (ourselves) from the USPS website.

I notice the pre-amp specs give a weight (Net Weight 4.5kg) so that gives a good indication of how heavy our package would be if we only ordered pre's.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Gareth, I just weighed my 6802T (from the last GB) and it comes to 10.5 US pounds. I'll let you do the conversion to kg, or whatever crazy system you use in the rest of the world :)

KEEP THIS IN MIND, THOUGH: It's a different mic, of course. What I weighed was the whole flight case, which contains a power supply, cables, microphone and the shock. PLUS--Chance used Fedex last time (if I remember correctly) and got some sort of discount....so, take this weight that I just posted with a grain of salt. Or even a fistful.

The 1200 could weigh substantially more or less. The power supply might be a different design, weighing more or less. The cables included might even be different enough to make a difference, same with the shock mount. I can't remember if a case is included with the 1200...but if so, that could weigh differently, too. The numbers I post are just for fun, to give your mind something to work with. Can't rely on them, though...

Hey Chris. Thanks for that - that was just what I was after!

We use a mixture of measurements over here - its crazy! I'm in the process of making my studio and I went to the builders merchant and the timber is measured like 8" x 1" x 4.2m !!

I'll be getting some 6802's too - so that helps:P

I just thought it would be pretty helpful if we could get some ideas on the weight of each "item", for lack of a better word - ie, the sum of the "product", rather than just the mic itself.

I vaguely remember reading Chance will use USPS for international services, but I may be wrong - I'll look that up if we do get some numbers to work with.

Thanks!
Gareth

Weight will also depend on how the factory packages the gear. There's no assurance that it will be the same this time as last. Then of course it will be repacked in larger boxes as well to ship to you. If you want a real rough estimate, let us know what you are looking at buying and perhaps people who purchased that item last time (if it is not a new item) can let you know what it weighs sans packaging (as Chris just did). I bought a couple ACM 310s and an ACM-4, so if you are contemplating any of those, I can give you a weight.

Again, not for wagering purposes, as they say:

Weights of the mics I got last time, in the boxes they came in:

ACM-1_______3.5 pounds US
ACM-3_______2.5 pounds US
ACM-583_____1.5 pounds US

plus a shock mount for the ACM-583 and a mic clip for ACM-3, weigh about .75 pounds combined.

Pohaku. You're just the guy myself and several others would like to talk to. We've been hoping for some more info on the 310. How is it on acoustic? What about the tube? Could it be modded? If so, what tube would you (did you) use? etc..... Thanks.

Marik is the man you want to speak to about the 310 mod. I was in contact with him and he has some very cool mods/upgrades.

Paul,

See this thread:

My review of the 310, as well as others, is there. I haven't modded mine, yet, and zbert is correct that Marik is who you want to talk with about modding. I did look to see what tube was used, expecting that it would be similar to those used by GT in its mics, and it is apparently a relatively obscure sub-miniature tube as there wasn't a whole lot about it on the net. I know Marik was looking at it also and he is way more electronics savvy than I am. I'm just a dumb lawyer after all :D

Thanks guys!

Thank you very much, Pohaku. I'll check that thread out. I have been following Marik's posts with great interest. I've modded a couple of my mics and want to look into modding the new ones as well.

LOL I won't hold that against you.

Thanks Zbert!

Clarification.

Just wanted to clarify something:

On the TnC pages, registration and User Console, I added a simple JavaScript countdown to remind everyone of the group buy deadline... This "doomsday clock" was only meant to be fun and somewhat informative.
CountdownSS1.gif

This countdown aquires it's date/time from the date/time that YOU have set on YOUR computer... Which means that if your computer clock is wrong, so will this countdown. Just below the countdown on the page, I have listed the date/time of the deadline: April 13, 2008 - 12am EDT. This is the date/time that you need to remember... The countdown clock is and will be correct but ONLY if YOU have the date/time set correctly on your computer.

Just wanted to clear up and appologize for any confusion that this might have caused.

So Guys.

With the cut off set, and wanting to be absolutely sure not to appear impatient, is there a loose range of time we can expect for these mofos to find their way to our doors?

It doesn't matter either way. I'm just curious more than anything.

Some have said six months. Others have said to consider it a Christmas present to yourself, and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised by a slightly early visit from Santa.

I was in on the last group buy, and the best advice I read concering the arrival of the mics: "Patience grasshopper." :D

Same here. When the mics came into port I got all excited until I realized just how daunting a task Chance had in packing + shipping everything.

He did an excellent job of it though.

I'm wondering... there are some mics that have very few orders and there was some discussion about how they may get cut from the order due to the low interest. If that happens, will it happen before of after the deadline? And will the people affected by that cut be able to adjust their orders and spend that money on a different mic or a pre?

Oh, I'm sure they will.

You guys are worrying way too much. Relax. Chance won't dis ya. He's one of us. :)

Oh I know that. I'm not being impatient at all. I'm just trying to get a ball park. It's like you said, some are saying 6 months and some are saying christmas. I'm just wondering if I can get something a bit more clear as to what we can expect - from the horse's mouth. I'm fine either way.

I don't think chance will be able to give you even a ballpark. The other factor is once all the gear gets to chance, it depends where your order falls in the shipping queue will greatly increase/decrease the time before you receive the goods.

I'll be happy if they're here by christmas, otherwise I'll just wait for as long as it takes.
