I think many of us "tipped" Chance on the last GB for all his time and trouble in putting together the GB. I added some $$ to the final payment for local shipping. I see no problem with doing that here for Randy in some fashion. In fact if Randy has an available paypal account, I'd be happy to make a contribution up front right now.:D

+1, i would love the opportunity to contribute, via pay-pal or through Chance.
I felt kind of bummed too when I read about Randy Having to choose between mics and waiting for the next gb after all his hard work in making this go smooth.
I'd just want some sort of guarantee that the $ would be used for audio gear and not wasted on something like food or bills. J/K

I also thought about kicking in a few bucks to both Randy and Chance....Maybe we can get their paypal info and just go from there....I have a friend who was a memeber of a board once....I think it was a board where they talked about the cars they hyped up...anyway...this guys house burned down destroying his shop....everyone on the board kicked in a few $$$ and the guy ended up with several thousand.....

Randy/Chance, maybe put a paypal donation link up on the TNC gb site? I don't know how you guys would feel, but sounds like some people would like to thank you.

You and me both. I woke up this morning dreaming about microphones. Seriously. Two nights running.

I'm selling a pair of C1000S to pay for a pair of the 1200s. Even if the 1200s are lame, it's probably still an upgrade. :)

I was a 1084 refugee in the 1073 camp. I swapped my two 1073s for 1084s last night, putting the 1084 over 100. If the ordering period lasts too much longer I may double down. Argh.

Two paper cups and a string would be an upgrade

Interesting and moving thoughts. You all might remember on one of the previous GB's after Katrina destroyed a studio in New Orleons. The manufacturer sent some extra mics, I posted, you all voted, and we sent the extra mics to him.

I'll kick in a few buck too, but I also have some conditions...

Randy has to use the money on audio gear, a new hat, or a missing tooth :D (if applicable). And he's not allowed to fly that homemade plane until we don't need the website any longer. Flattened pilots aren't very useful most of the time. Three dimensional is always a preferred option. If he can meet these qualifications, you can put me down for a fiver.

Yeah, the 3 most useless things to a pilot are:

  1. The runway that's behind you.
  2. The altitude that's above you.
  3. ...and the fuel that you DID NOT purchase.

I think a great way to do it would be to put an extra item on the order form:

Quantity: ___ The Randy Bustin' His Ass For Us Fund: $1

Then people can just add whatever quantity they want (ie. quantity 2 = $2). Makes it nice and convenient and people think about it at the right time - when happily clicking away on their new gear :)

Off topic, but....
Flying a plane is no joke. I had a roommate in college who had his pilot's license and he took me up in one time in a little two-seater Cessena. While we were up there he asked me if I wanted to fly the plane for a little while and of course I said yes. So I take over the controls and I swear I barely turned the damn handle a quarter of an inch and the plane went WHOOOOOSH!!!! (up and to the right at a speed that made me nearly crap myself). I flew that plane for all of 15 seconds and then I told him to take those controls back.

More off topic, if you're a pilot you have to read Illusions by Richard Bach....one of my all-time favorite books.

Thank you!

All:

I've read the past page or so of posts this morning about you wanting to donate to Chance and I, and am deeply touched. The reason I've not replied until now, wasn't that I was ignoring this, but I really didn't know what to say.

There have been several people that have PM'd me since this GB has begun wanting to donate and several who have outright offered to buy gear and give it to me...some who have offered to order the gear and hold it for me until I could pay. All of this is greatly appreciated, and you know who you are.

When I made the post that has been referred to a few times about not having a job right now...etc., I wasn't "shopping" for sympathy but just rather carrying on conversation. It is true, I haven't had a "paycheck" since December 12, 2007, but all of needs are met. I've not came close to being hungry, cold or homeless. The "luxury factor" has went down some, but my needs are met... I'm not down to eating boiled cabbage and Friskies yet! ;)

There's a job, that has not-so-great pay, but has excellent benefits for "computer technician" available right now in my county's courthouse. I've applied for it and sent my resume' in... This is an entry level job and I know that with my experience over the past 13 years, I'm more than qualified, but as with all government jobs, qualifications for the job isn't necessarily the highest priority on the list when it comes to getting hired for the job...it has more to do with who you know than what you know...thus why our governments are in such a great mess. At any rate, I'm still working this and trying to at least get an interview. I've also got a few things brewing with a few companies doing "contract" work for them and getting paid on an on-going, per-item credit card transaction commission basis. 99% of the programming that I do is related to credit card processing and the banking industry. Things seem to be turning around for me right now, slowly, but turning around in a job related aspect.

What you all have offered is very humbling and I appreciate it VERY MUCH. I also appreciate every, "Thank you", "atta-boy", "great job" that has been mentioned by you all. The truth is that I have had, and still having, a ball doing all of this for everyone, and Chance. When I "re-skinned" the User Console to the new "blue look" Chance wanted me to add a Bible verse to the page. Immediately, I knew which one I wanted to add, Romans 8:28 - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." I believe that everything happens for a purpose, and I don't believe that it was mere chance that I had 'some extra time on my hands' during this group buy and was able to contribute to it, what I have, by building the Registration portal and User Console.

Please keep in mind however, that "this is Chance's group buy". I was afraid at the beginning when I started with the Registration Portal and User Console that some would think that I was 'trying to take over'. This is far from the truth. I don't have a problem with anyone donating like you have mentioned, but I would first want to talk it over with Chance and do it with his blessing and according to any guidelines that he'd like to set. As soon as I get to discuss this with Chance and if he gives me the 'go-ahead', I'll build a donation page and publish the link on this board.

Again, words can't express how much that all of your thoughts of generosity and unselfishness is appreciated. Really, the best words that I can say is Thank you and God bless you.

In Christ,

Randy

WOW Thats awsome Randy.
Actually, when you stop to think about it, it's not my group buy, it's OUR group buy. It takes a "group" to make it happen.
I should be sending a mass-mail out by the week end.

Hey Randy!

Don't worry man...I've been out of a job since November 16th, 2007. The Lord's been providing all along. Just as I was beginning to reach the end of my rope this week, all of a sudden like 3 places called wanting me to come in for interviews. I have one today at 1pm for Schwan's!

I'm registered for the Buy and hope I have the cash to be able to buy a mic or two when its time!

Praying for you,

Rich

Good luck with that interview, man.

best of luck, Randy. I concur about putting a donation button on the site.

Indeed they do brother!!!

I had no idea this would spark so high or fast. I'm glad I brought it up. Of course, I'm absolutely down for a contribution to you both for the hard work and selflessness you guys have shown this group.

Actually, even more than the gear, this is an amazing undertaking that is blowing my mind coming off a public forum in 2008!!

Good luck with that application! Prayers going up for you!!!

Chance,

Did you have any input on the design of the ACM-900 (tube ribbon) or any of the other microphones in this group buy? Are the tubes socketed in all of the tube mics? Thanks!

I had some input. The 310 is mine and on that, it has a subminiature tube which is soldered in as most subminiature tubes are.
