I'm not too sure about the grenade thing because to get the best prices, quantity is important. I saw it at the NAMM show and it was so ugly, I don't care how good it sounds, I'm not sure I want it. It is MUCH bigger in real life compared to the picture. In fact,, it's probably the largest mic I've ever seen. And VERY heavy too. I MIGHT get a demo, but what would I use a weapons grade mic like that on? Think weight/space/shipping/=$

awwww but I like big ugly things - after all I make industrial music. :D

Anyway I posted the poll about the current crop of mics.

Thanks for the poll!

Question guys, of the ribbons purchased in the last GB, which would you recommend for vocals, something close to an RCA? I want to try a ribbon but will only be using it on my vocals.

Thanks for the input!

Earl

My pleasure! :)
I apologize for the mistakes in it

I have been using the ACM-4 on female vocals with really nice results. See this posting for a sample from this mic:

I agree that the ACM-4 would be a good way to go. The ACM-1 *looks* more like an RCA, though, and I'm bummed I didn't get one. I thought I heard someone here say it sounded good on vocals.

I still have some ACM-1. I will post the total mics left over next week.

Thanks for the clips. I'm was thinking about the ACM-4 but if there is a left over ACM-1 to mess with, I try it and maybe another time another ribbon. I think I still want the ACM-6802T for sure.

Harvey, any word on comparing the T3 with the ACM-6802? I know you're busy, but just asking!:D

Can't wait to see the list of mics left. May have $300 by the 25th of Feb. to spend.

Thanks again Chance for all you're doing.

Not yet, it's in Studio A but we haven't had a chance to get around to it. We have bands in all weekend, so maybe next week, things will calm down a bit.

alright...i know this topic is getting a little worn out, but i have another question for chance about the ACM-3, just to get things straightened out.`..

are there going to be new ribbon elements available for the ACM-3's that came out of this round of the group buy, or do we have to buy another ACM-3 in the next one to get an extra ribbon?

i was going to go ahead and re-tension mine the other day, but the ribbon is far beyond sagging - the thing has been stretched to the point that the corrugations are toast, which will of course affect its sonics even if it is properly re-tensioned. as a result, of course, i would much prefer to just stick a new ribbon in there...and while i'd be willing to plop down the $45-50 for another mic (plus the ribbon) and make a pair, it might be a little tougher to explain to the wife why i need to get ANOTHER mic, especially when it's just like the one that just showed up in an un-usable state.

Wow Harvey, that was fast! I wasn't expecting an answer for a few days knowing how busy you are.

Again, just curious. I think I'll have to wait until the next buy anyway.

(or anyone who knows)
I am VERY interested in the preamps.
Have I missed anything being absent lately?
I looked through posts, but can't find any current pictures or discussion of features or tentative price.
Is the pre going to be 2 channel? or?

I need at least 4 channels of pre for drums.

Thanks for all your efforts, I don't know if anyone has told you in the last 5 seconds, but i personnally really appreciate all your efforts to provide decent stuff for us guys on a budget.

Thank you for the kind words.
There is a good possibility that I will post some pics tomorrow. My daughter is making the pics "stand out" rather than just sitting on a table or the like.

chance did i miss anything?

I sent you the email TNC GEAR and I haven't heard anything but it seems like someone already has the one of the TnC ribbon mics?

Evan.hart at gmail dot com

please please let me know whats up/add me to the list

the ribbon mics (and others) came in the last group buy. You and all the rest of us emailed Chance to get ready for the *next* group buy  I think we're all still waiting for the response -- good things take time :D

In a few hours, I will be posting the first look at the new preamps. 3 are rackmount and 1 is a 2ch stand alone. The cost is really going to depend on interest. The cost for tooling/developing will be absorbed by a group buy. The cost can be reduced by almost 50% with a 100 piece order. I only wish I had gone with only one design. That would have made things simple. With microphones, it's a little different because they use many common parts for many mics. I can't seem to upload jpgs here so,,,, you know the drill, someone sends me an E-mail, I will reply with the attachment around 4:00pm (So Cal time)

Can't you just upload the image to "image shack" or some other photo site, and then link to it in your post? I just did that in a post in the guitar forum, and it worked fine. ...Or are you dealing with copyright/trademark issues or something like that?

Chance, can you detail the differences between the pre's if you've had time with them or just detail the specs if not? For example some pre's pick up fast transients which make them good for percussion, other's are a little slower and come across as smooth, etc.

Also, any way to take a stab at price at this time so we have a general feel for what to expect? Maybe quote an approximate high if only 50 pre's are ordered and an approximate low if over 100 pre's are ordered, etc with an understanding that no one will hold you to the numbers given the situation.

I'd be surprised if there aren't 100+ orders for a dual rack mount Mic Pre from Chance. Anyone else? :D

can't wait for the pics; specs; ordering frenzy to begin. lol.

I imagine the price threshold is based on 100 or better of each model he's developed--and he said there's a total of four. So who knows, maybe he needs 400 orders. Or maybe I'm an idiot and he just needs 100.

In any case, based on how much I like the bang for the buck I got with the Group Buy Mics, I'll be ordering a couple/few pres. I've got a couple blanks in my console just waiting for 'em...
