yeah all three definitely have their merrits.... i think #1 might be my choice just from looking at them.... i'd have to see some more detailed specs first though.

so i guess this means there will be no new thread for the next GB. darn.

Actually, if you look under the phantom power switch, there is an EQ defeat/bypass switch.
The benefit of the EQ, is that you have the Neve 1073 style of control going in to your recorder.
I understand, but I'd never, ever use it. My preference would be for a smaller, more portable unit with at least two channels in the box. Pretty much all of my work is done on location, so I'd never use the EQ while tracking. So the simpler two-channel unit is the only one that holds any appeal for me. But that's OK, the goal here is to meet the needs of the many, not the few. I can just sit this one out if my needs don't align well with the rest of the group.

I'd still like to understand the circuit. And if there are others here who'd be interested in a two channel portable unit, maybe it'll still fit into the product mix.

if the interest is great enough, it might not be a bad idea to offer the 2 channel Pr***nus looking one AND one of the single channel units as well. i'd think 100 orders for each wouldn't be so difficult to get, there seems to be a whole lot of interest.

Can't wait to see general pricing... I like the top rack mount... but also like having the DI. Does the top unit have a 1/4 in the back?

I could see getting a couple of the top model... and maybe one or two of the bottom unit... depending on what I can afford. ;)

yeah i'd definitely like to grab pairs of whatever he ends up offering... i've gotta sell some other gear first though...

I'd be interested in the one with DI and the two channel, but I'll make due with whatever is finally decided on.

i wish the one with the DI had a little more in the way of EQ, but shit, i'll buy whatever is decided on, this will be a smart buy regardless.

I'm in for whatever works out for the group. Interested do some experimenting and to see how they hold up against my vintech dual 72

can't wait for some new gear =D

I've been trying to keep up, but is there still a GB happening for mics aswell?

my understanding is

that along with these pre's

chance will be offering some new mics

as well as a select few of the old ones

(6802, 310, 583 and a ribbon or 2)

in this future group buy

cheers, didn't check the thread for a day or so and then everyones talking about pre's

Also Chance, you mentioned there was a few buyers from Australia last time, when the time comes i'd like to see if its possible to try and group the shipping together. Maybe the other Australian buyers could pm me to work something out?

I just got an E-mail from the manufacturer about the #1 pre. This is the first prototype and is not ready for manufacture. Maybe I jumped the gun here but I knew you guys were getting impaitent. You might remember when I posted the first prototype and it strongly resembeled the Behringer? That was only for testing/evaaluating the circuit/design. Then they re packaged it to what you see here. With all respects to the good people at Presonus what is shown here is a prototype that I recieved and any resemblence is only in the outer appearence only. The circuitry is completely different. I possess a lot of gear from Presonus and will not infringe on any trademark. We hope to have the finished enclosure ready soon.

Wreckd,

Chance and I touched upon the shipping issues (sending all Aust., orders direct from China) a while back and I emailed him the basic info I received from Customs along with my thoughts on the possible difficulties.

It is doable and has advantages, but it almost certainly means that Chance would have additional work to make it happen fairly, and this is where the disadvantages become apparent.

FWIW I felt that the DI was a necessary option for some too.

i definitely love having di's on pres, but i can say with some certainty that anyone will get more value by buying a $50-100 di box (you can get a nice one from radial or avenson for that much) and putting it before one of your pres than they will by getting a $50-100 eq and putting it after one of your pres with more limited eq but w/ a di.
i guess that would be my argument for picking one with more eq options. also the vu meter is really cool, but i wonder how useful it will be on these-- how accurate/sensitive are they? if the pre has a neve-ish flavor, then driving it a little hard isn't a bad thing at all and most can just see if it's hitting their recorders/converters too hard after the pre anyway.

I want to get on with this group buy ASAP as most of you all do too. I don't know how to post prices of the pre amps, because it will depend on quantity. perhaps I will E-mail all of you the prices at 100 pieces. The problem is, if there are less than 100 pieces, it will cost more. How about a "pre-poll"?
