Thanks for the offer Chance, but I actually need more time and less mics ;)

But I have a thought about "extra mics".

Years ago when I was in San Francisco I was part of a "media collective", oh all right...full name - "Haight Ashbury Community Radio / People's Media Collective." And damn proud of it too. Anyway...more and more, I'm looking for ways to get back to doing some pro-bono community service work. Lending gear to needy musicians who's music I dig feels like a win-win to me. I'm finalizing a deal where I'm going to loan a fair-sized assortment of mics to an independent band for their next album project in exhange for some blog and forum chatter about their use of them.

Perhaps you could loan, with time restrictions, any extra mics available to a high school-aged band that's just starting to record. At the completion of the project the mics would travel onto the next band-in-need. Spread the love etc.

Hey, that sounds like a good way to repay our blessings. Keep me posted.

Got my mics today and they look awesome, great packing and fantastic cases etc. Can't wait to get home and try these out.

I've got some mics I would donate to such a noble venture, feel free to email or pm me and I will provide some nice "starter" type mics. Do they have pres and phantom and that crap?

Some of you might remember the last GB, all the extras were given to 2 studios that lost everything in Katrina. We all collectivly paid for those mics, and you will no doubt remember how good it felt to to do that.

OMFG!! I would have never though of that. Very nice gesture!
So I'll just wait until the next GB (crossing fingers hoping there will be one).

Two things
1. does anyone have the specs on those shock mounts (ACS-24)? (the ones we were supposed to get) I am at the wherehouse now and don't have the info here.
2. I have to go to Chicago next week but a large order will be shipped on Tuesday, providing I recieve ship pymt. SO WATCH YOUR E-MAIL FOR REQUESTS. I will be sending the requests starting tomorrow (Wednesday) and cut off on Sunday evening.

Yes sir!!!

(the "F5" lettering is wearing off my keyboard from hitting refresh so many times :) )

Ya gotta watch that Chance... he's a tricky one... I did that for weeks, then I leave for a Thanksgiving trip without my computer... and BAM! there it is when I get back. (I wanna know how he knew!!! :D)

Do you mean ES-24? I Hope... That's the SM I paid for on my Invoice and didn't receive. Goes w/ the ACM-3... right?

China is now working on different capsules (for the 310) including a lollypop.
Chance, that is very exciting news! The 310 is among the most promising of the mics in the current list, and as soon as I saw it, I wondered if there might be some addition capsules that would work with it. A larger diaphragm vocal capsule would add significantly to the utility of this mic. I'm glad that I bought a pair of them.

that sounds great in theory, but the potential for stuff to break and/or disappear seems pretty high

True. and how good of a recording would these bands make with a nice mic? I guess we're assuming they're familiar with or have other equipment to record with and are aware of basic recording techniques.

I've always thought it would be cool to run a studio as a not-for-profit that would record young musicians and high school bands for little or nothing.

i've found that nothing, or little to it, is all that you can get from bands of HS kids...

If you are talking money, I agree. But when it comes time for you to leave the planet, you leave all your money (mics too LOL) here.

If everything I'm hearing about the ACM-310 is true, then I plan to be buried with it. But, very good point! :D

I received my mics yesterday and they are beautiful. All of the rolloff/pattern switches work, variable knob on the power supply for 6802 feels great, nice packing. I just need to set 'em up and plug 'em in now.:)

Thanks Chance!! This is great what you did.:):):):):):):):)

2. I have to go to Chicago next week

I am considering turning this gig down. I've got too many priorities here in sunny So Cal. We still have OD's and mixing to do on Bill Bonham's (John's brother) project.
We'll open the next GB after the NAMM show in January. I informed China of my disappointment with their lack of QC with the ribbons and am waiting for their reply. I will call them this evening (their morning)

Got my ACM mics yesterday--all 6 of them. I was able to play with 5 of them last night.

Across the board--I'm thrilled. The build quality and components seem beyond the price to me. As far as sound (they are mics, right?) I did some speaking, singing and acoustic guitar into the 310, 6802T, 583, 1 & 4 (I'll try the 3 on the guitar cab tonight.) Only working under headphones, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I look forward to spending time with each of them and finding their place in my setup.

Ribbons are new to me so maybe I just don't know, but mine sound really good. I'll have to do some research so I know how to check for loose ribbons, but so far, I'm grooving on 'em.

One last thing: I'm already looking to buy a couple and make some pairs: anybody got a 583 or a 310 they'd like to sell? If so, PM me...

... variable knob on the power supply for 6802 feels great...
Mine doesn't. No biggee, but although it switches through the detentes, when it gets to either end of the switch rotation the knob keeps turning. I don't see a set screw - when I get a chance I'll pull it off and wedge some toilet paper in there.
