I just ran into something that has me confused. I have started packing up the orders. I am including the pay pal receipt. Some orders have no pay pal fee, and the order I just packed (for $300.00) has a $9.15 pay pal fee. This was deducted off of my payment. Now,, when I request the funds for shipping and these fees to y'all, How will I know what this fee for shipping will be, so I can be fully compensated ? Any thoughts?

Is the pay pal fee a percentage of the charge? If so, just add that on to the shipping charges for those people that had the fee deducted from your payment originally, and not for those who presumably are paying their own fees. Plus add an extra buck or two to cover the paypal fee for the extra fee. :D

Or, just add a small, reasonable amount on to everybody's bill for the shipping to cover this.

Well... how hard would it be to take all the paypal charges and add them up... then use that and the total paypal request amount to get a percentage... then apply that average percentage to the cost of shipping... plus an extra point or two for safety sake. That way you should recoup the paypal fees, and everyone helps to cover the transaction fees instead of the apparent current lottery, where some transactions were charged a fee and some weren't.

Makes sense in my head anyway... even if I can't explain it... not sure how much work it would be for you though.

Could it be that those who paid with a credit card thru paypal are causing a ~3% charge to the seller? I don't know much about paypal, just a guess.

Paypal

If you go to the paypal site you can find their pricing schedule. It's 2.9% + $.30 for orders $3,000 and under.

so does that mean that the ones with no fee were orders of 3,000 or more? Cause I was hoping it was more like magic, and maybe my order woudln't have the extra charge....

Maybe it is magic!

Orders $3,001 - $10,000 are 2.5% + $.30. The bigger the ammount the lower the percentage. I think it goes all the way down to 1.9%, but there is always a fee. Someboday always pays.

I will gladly pay any amount that you expected.

I appreciate that, but I only want what is due and am trying to figure what the fee will be for the shipping "request for money" from Paypal

Chance
Here are the phone numbers for pay pal 888-215-5506 and 888-221-1161. The second number listed is the perfered number according to the Gethuman 500 Database (hard to find phone numbers and how to bypass to a real person) Press 0 at each prompt, ignoring messages.
Now I've never tried the number for paypal but I have used their info for reaching other companies with success. If you want I can try to reach them today if you don't have the time. Just PM me.

Charge us $5 per hundred, that'll cover it plus a coupla pennies and save a lotta making maths.....

Works for me. You can otherwise spend more time than it is worth trying to come up with precise cost figures. This would work and is simple to administer.

+1. More than fair.

I realize we're making this up as we go along (this being the first time), but this seems as good a solution as any. Chance, your time is worth something (as I'm sure you know!).

not for nothing, but 5% is almost double what the actual paypal fee appears to be. seeing as i've got almost $3000 worth of mics coming, i'd rather not be shelling out tons of money if i don't have to....

You already paid for the mics, the rest is just for delivery and would be negligible, or, for an order of that magnitude ( I doubt there are more) figure his out seperately

well i already paid for the mics, but i'd hope he'd bill me for the money that was taken out of the inital order by paypal.

Formula

As for figuring the total paypal request for shipping this formula should get you pretty close (within a penny or two):

Total request = Shipping Charge + ((Shipping Charge x .029) +.3) x 1.029

I cannot figure out why it doesn't add up exactly when I work backward. Maybe someone who is better at math can figure it out.
