I would steer clear of that apple store from now on. It sounds like they are bad luck.:D

Yes it is a MAC G-4 OSX 10-3-9. the curser only hangs up for about 10 seconds after each click of the mouse. I tried a different known good mouse with no difference. Sometimes too I get that "pinwheel" thing happenning and it takes a while to go away. If I were to use CCC to clone my HD again, do you think I could just swap that cloned HD and if the HD is bad, would the swapped HD be a simple plug and go procedure? or would I have to do the drivers and other apps again.

Ah. Okay. Not a freeze. Just a stall. That's a totally different ball game. That doesn't sound like a drive problem. How much RAM do you have? What apps are you running? Does this happen in all apps or just in certain ones?

Try running Terminal and typing the following command:

top -o cpu

Then leave Terminal running in the background with that command running. You'll see a continuous list of all processes and how much CPU each is using, sorted by CPU usage.

Go about your normal work. When it stalls, look across at that window and see if a single application is pegging the CPU. If so, let us know which one. If not, see if the pagein/pageout counts are going way up. If so, it probably just needs more RAM.

If you haven't already, try verifying the disk in Disk Utility. That won't check for bad blocks or anything, but at least it will check to see if the directory structures are all correct. If you want to do a bad block check:

sudo dd if=/dev/disk0 of=/dev/null bs=4194304

DO NOT mix up the input and output parameters or you'll wipe your drive!

Anyway, it will ask for your admin password, then that command will read through every block and will throw away the results (sending it to /dev/null). If it makes it through the disk, you don't have any bad blocks. This will take a long time.... :)

Murphy's law.

I just realized... this seems to be shaping up that the Mics would arrive while I am away on vacation...

Chance, without trying to pressure you ... just curious... how close are you to sending out the PayPal requests, then putting the boxes in the mail? These will be coming from California correct?

Yes, they're coming from Southern California. I've got around 10 boxes packed and one shipping label printed. I will start sending out SOME paypal requests today. I am going to try a nes hard drive in the computer. All your data is in the computer so I'd better give that priority. I desperately need the room and need to get these mics to you all ASAP.

I've emailed you a while back about picking up my mics. If the times worked out for you, I could help you pack boxes for a couple of hours on either wednesday morning or sometime on friday or saturday. Just let me know if you could use the help. (Don't know if I put my username. My name is Abraham in the email)

Not to start a flame war but...
the new ones use the same processors and run windows just fine if you want
to have the 2 OS running side by side right out of the box.

+1 for a few bucks extra for chance

If we all toss in an extra $5 or so, Chance can probably get himself a new computer.

I formally propose we do a "Radiohead" here - folks, add on whatever tip you'd like (5 bucks, ten dollars, whatever) when you pay for shipping.

Aj

P.S. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the recent online-only release of the new Radiohead album, where people paid whatever they thought the record was worth in exchange for downloading the full album (even if they only wanted to pay a dollar). They had a million downloads in the first day - average price people paid was eight bucks (you do the math!).

That got them a lot of media attention. Even my mom knew about it.

We wanted to do something like that on the last group buy. Unfortunately, when Chance tells Paypal to send the invoices, they will contain a fixed amount - it won't be possible to "add a tip" to the total. If you want to give Chance a bonus, you'll have to find another way to do it.

And for the record, I think it's a good idea. Chance, see if you can figure out a way to let us add something to our total for your trouble. (And if you have an objection to such bonuses, please say so.)

Can't we just PayPal a tip to Chance (separately)? That should work without Chance having to "enable" our gratuity.

After the last group buy I sent him a check. That works. Cash would be an option too.

Cash tips are Best for various reasons. Wrap $5 w/ some paper and put it in a envelope, just like a letter. As long as you can't tell there's $$$ in there.

Hey
I'm overwellmed with all your thoughts and offers to help. I am expecting to start sending the pay pal requests on friday. I have a somewhat slow week next week so I hope to get a lot done. The thing that is really slowing me down is the computer. I got a new hard drive, cloned it with CCC via FW, re booted from it, and there was no change. My thoughts now is the logic board. I just hope it lasts the duration of this mic project. I already have a Fed ex pick up schedualed for Tuesday in anticipation of recieving the funds from Pay pal

I just read a PM about Pay Pal fees. For this reason alone I am enclosing a copy of the Pay Pal receipt which shows the Pay Pal fee. This way there will be no question. When I send the next "request for shipping", using the PP calculator, the request amount will reflect THAT PP fee.

Several wanted to come and pick up their mics. E-mail me. I have a rather lite work load next week. I need a small advance notice, because some of the mics are at my wherehouse

I've sent out around 10 Pay Pal requests for the shipping. So far I have recieved 2 payments. I have 10 orders packed, labeled, and ready to ship. I have Fed Ex schedualed for pick up on Tuesday. This represents around only 350 pounds of mics. Got a long way to go, need room in the studio and as soon as these are shipped, I'll bring in another load from my wherehouse and pack and ship. Watch your E-mail and be prompt with the request for shipping, and things will go a little smoother. My computer is still acting wierd, but it's getting the job done. I am enclosing the Pay Pal receipts, so you can see the fees. All the Pay Pal fees (past/present) are reflected in the requests sent. The orders that are ready to ship, some were large orders which take more time to pac, so the smaller ones will be much faster. You will see a vairity of shipping boxes thanks to my neighbors who run a varity of businesses.
