Every time I see Chances' name on a thread I get as excited as (* put your favorite analogy here). So Chance, no more posting til "post time". Lol

i don't really know how i missed this thread earlier, but i'm probably gonna be up all night reading thru it once i get home. i'm always willing to try a cheap mic or two. just gotta decide which one(s) first.

It might be helpful to note that the thread started long before the current offering was underway. Much of the material in this thread may be of general interest (so I don't discourage you from reading it), but the specific information about the current group buy starts around page 23 of the thread.

assuming that the only addition to the price given on chance's site is the shipping from Ontario, CA to the buyer's location, you can put me down for both the ACM-2 and ACM-3

OK, I finally got the remaining info from the manufacturer, and updated my site They were gone for a while at the show in Germany. I am surprised at the poll The 310 is my design utilizing information I collected over the years from Terry Manning, Maric, Jim Thomas (I think thats his name) and Oktava mods. The openings below the capsule reduce the proximity effect. I just got a lot of new mics for the next "buy" but they're not ready for production yet. I'll post more info after the cut-off date. I will start the ordering/info this week end

Something I want to add is I am blown away when many times I visit a lot of pro studios here in LA. They usually have the super high dollar mics and I, more times than not, see a cheap China ribbon in front of a guitar cab. Perhaps the ribbon distorts? I don't know, but theres a nice warm fuzzy sound that gets recorded. The high dollar mics usually reveal many of the imperfections that you want to hide. Personally I like to have as many different colors on my palet for different applications. Fortunately now, we don't have to break the bank for some more tools of our trade. Just some thoughts.

is your website down at the moment? i tried to go there and the page won't load.

that's awesome! i'm already on the poll for a pair of the 310's. the poll does not reflect interest with complete accuracy as folks can only vote once, there is no way to indicate interest in multiple mics of the same type, or of multiple mics of varying types.
thanks yet again for doing this chance!

is the ACM-2 similar to the "large noggin" microphone? it sure looks like one...and it's 1/3 the price!

i'm interested in more info on the ACM-582 also...but for now the mics i'd really want to purchase are:
  • ACM-582
  • ACM-2
  • ACM-6801T
  • ACM-1
  • ACM-560 or ACM-580 L

i really would like to have some sort of idea of what the differences are between the condenser models? i know each of them shares the physical looks with some other known mics, but i'm more interested in how the group buy mics compare to each other...

but i guess for the price it's not that big of a deal, can't really go wrong!

Chance... weird question for ya...

Do you think the shockmount for the ACM 240 or 220 might work for a Shure SM81? What's the diameter of those mic bodies?

Also... no shock mount available for the ACM-3?

I can't say for sure, but I'm betting it's the same, without the large noggin logo.

Chance: when do you need
(1.) final commitment on mic choices
(2.) payment

Will the final commitment be handled via email, the BBS, PM's, etc. Payment via Paypal?

The 220 is 22mm, and the 240 is 24mm The ACM-3 is also 22mm, so the same shock mount will work. Shock mount is $12.00

I am still pondering adding one of the 310s, just trying to figure what I would use it for. A pair may make a nice acoustic micing setup, or one may work set back from a guitar cab with a dynamic closer to the grill. I don't use overheads as my drum kit is controlled by a brain and runs direct into the board. Seems like a nice mic for $85 apiece, though.

Oh.... perfect. :) I'll measure my mics... I might just make a huge shock mount buy too.

This whole thing is EVIL!!!! There's so many I would LOVE to get.

I'm thinking that they may turn out to be useful on piano. Won't know until we try it, though. ;)

Ok, I'm IN. One ACM-1 for me. I will continue to monitor this thread to see exactly how I am to order...

Thanks Chance!!
