Chance,
If you don't mind making a suggestion...
Would you say the best choice of the ribbons for mainly vocal use would be the ACM-1?

Tom

It's really hard for me to recommend a mic. Eveyone uses their own technique. I was very impressed with some of the mics from the last GB. The ones I would never use, I either cannibalized and mod/experimented, or they went to E-bay. I would recommend go with your gut feeling, if it doesn't work, you will have no problem off'ing it on E-bay. Might even make it worth your while. This is not a one time thing. I plan on continuing doing this. The only thing is that it takes so long to put together. From the time I start Pay Pal money requests, the ordering will last 3 weeks ONLY.

Thanks CIRO. And happy birthday to you too!

Tom,

I also was hoping to experiment with vocals... I'm a never-used-a-ribbon newbie, but I would love the option. I hope the ACM-1 works out for me.

Interested...

I want to buy a few... they all look so tempting, the only problem for me right now is deciding on which ones. Would it be cheaper to combine shipping with friends to the same address instead of two or three separate addresses?

Not sure if this was discussed, but if so, I missed it and I apologize.

Just based on the photo--I'm assuming that the XLR cord for the ACM-1 is permanently attached--is that correct?

Thanks-

I believe it is

hey chance, did i read correctly a little bit back-- that the buy opens this weekend? also do you have a ballpark idea from the last group buy how long it will be from the close of the buy until sending the mics out?

Hmmm...just wondering if there is any more information on the ACM-510 other than "USB powered"? I was in the market for a USB mic and would pick this up if I knew more about it. Feel free to PM me if needed. I see there is no reported interest in this mic so I'd certainly understand if nothing more was posted. Thanks!!

I'm also interested in the usb mic
I'm also planning on the two tube mics and a couple of the ribbons. Can't decide which.
Does anybody think the different ribbons will sound all that different from each other? Am i correct in assuming they have the same ribbon, motor, and transformers and differ primarily in body shape?

thanks

This is curious and enticing BUT, has anybody here actually tried these mics?

I'm pretty sure I've used an approximate commercial equivalent of the ACM-1, though I won't name brand names. Sounds great if you stuff in a Lundahl transformer.

The ACM-4 has caught my interest, nice package with case, shockmount and suprisingly choice of color. How fashion concious! Am somewhat curious about the sensitivity rating:
Sensitivity -53db (0db=1V/pa)

I haven't seen it measured this way (Ima noob).

OK gang, let the fun begin
For those that don't know the drill, heres how it works. you send me an E-mail. In the subject header put "MICROPHONES" in all caps. Then in the message area, state what you want. I will use those E-dresses for the Pay pal money requests (ONLY ONE E-DRESS PLEASE). cut off date is May 6. Its important to put "MICROPHONES" in the subject header so it will be easier to file to a seperate folder plus I can, at a glance, weed out all the Viagra, work at home, and all the other trash you are all familiar with. Pay pal has a small fee, but I will cover it for now and add when I pack and ship to you. I'm getting TONS of E-mail questions and can't possibily answer them all, so post here, theres a good chance some one will have the answer

I'm assuming the correct email address is musicians.workshop@gte.net?

It's just my montra I guess...

Does anyone have a pic of the $12 shock mount? I know we figure it will work for the ACM-2 as the diameters are the same, I'm just curious what else it might be useful for, and if I want to pick up extras.

When you said "$12.00 shock mount", which one were you referring to? there are a couple. The one shown MIGHT come with it, but the optional one is an elastic suspended shock mount

Whoops... Sorry I screwed up going from memory.

I'm referring to the mount for $12 offered with the ACM-220 & Acm-240. I meant to say we figured it would also work with the ACM-3 .... not ACM-2. Sorry for the confusion. You mentioned earlier the ACM-3 was 22mm, and the 220 & 240 were 22mm & 23mm.

You wouldn't happen to have a photo would you?

What's the diameter of the ACM-2. Would the 220 shockmount not work for that one?

What tube does the ACM-310 use? Any chance (no pun intended) we'll be able to get a schematic if we buy one? I'd like to be able to modifiy it if I can. Also, is there a shockmount for the ACM-3? Thanks for putting this all together.
