Guys
Why don't we leave Alan alone. It's my thought he only read some of the posts. He might have read that my tech drafted the specs and automatically jumped to today, thought I was taking the credit, and assumed that these are the same. Maybe they are. The Chineese do not always come thru. If you remember the 310 prototype had the tube soldered to the pins. The final was supposed to be a socket mount tube. We got over a hundred of them and they were all soldered. When I confronted the manufacturer, their reply was "cost too much money" Sometimes we are at their mercy. If Alan had it in for me, Why would he contribute the 797 schematics for us to compare? I don't know if those schems are the same for our pres or not. My tech is going over the schematics. Again Alan stated that these were originally for CL. Since he posted this, I have been getting PM's and E-mails to the effect of "had we known these were originally for CL, we would want them. We have heard of CL, but we haven't heard of TnC and our risk is greater with an unknown brand (TnC) than it is with something slated for a company like CL." I have nothing against Alan. He was only informing everyone what he thought (that I was capitalizing on someone elses design). He gave us his endorsment that "it is a good box". Lets drop it. I know we all want to yak while we wait, but lets yak about things that are productive. Look at the spirit of what Alan said and not the letter of his words.

It's a shame Hyatt wasn't as considerate as you when he started blasting you on the boards (and it looks like he got a couple of days head start over at GS before he came here). But you're right, we should leave him alone and I'm willing to do that ....as soon as he apologizes to you for calling you a liar and to every GB participant for causing such a shitstorm.

so anyway, about those mod ideas for the 6802...

I couldn't even remember if I ordered a 6802. I had to go look at my invoice. I did. :)
However, I'm really more intrigued by the 1200. I ordered two of those so I can A/B them as I make changes.

Who knows, maybe mine are being built as I type this!

So, did anyone do any recording over the w/end?

Not one note that will ever see a CD, but I did some recording -- a 3-way drum overhead mic shootout (STO-2 omni, Oktovamod MK-012 cardioid, CAD M179 both cardioid and omni), a 3-way tom mic shootout (N/D468, Audix D2, M179), and a 4-way snare mic shootout (57, D1, N/D468, and a beyerdynamic 422). Oh, and I threw a 635a on the snare shell in hopes of finding a use for it that doesn't sound like an AM radio.

Now I have a ton of WAV files to plow through. I'm setting up some A/B clips to be posted to my site soon. (Where "soon" means "some time before the new mics arrive because then I'll be doing another shootout".)

Here's a preview -- the STO-2 has killer low-end response. I didn't expect that in an OH situation.

You are correct they are being built. Because of the dollar devaluation, the logo/model numbers won't be engraved, but silkscreened like before. They also suggested serial number engraving, but it is extra cost and we're out to save $ right?

This is good news, Chance (being built). I think we all trust you to make the decisions on these little issues.

Now I understand why they're called "TnC" and not "Wunderifitwerkz (the obviously superior name that I suggested some time ago :p). We can't afford all those letters! ;)

Bravisimo Chance!

And honestly, I wouldn't care if they wrote "TnC" on the mics with a Sharpie. I didn't buy 'em 'cause they're pretty. :D

Chance - Transformer Buy???

Chance, I've been doing a lot of thinking about my ribbons that I'm getting, and am thinking about trying the Lundhals and maybe the Cinemags. At one point there was discussion of a group transformer buy. Any thoughts on that at this point? Or should I just move forward on my own. (I certainly understand if you're gun shy these days.)

THANKS!

Cheers,

bp

Well,,, On the last GB, I contacted Cinimag, Lundahl, Jensen, and Edcor, and they all will give us quantity discounts. It might be best to wait for the boat to arrive and inspect before we cannabalize our gear. When we see how much room is in there, and what (if any) shortcuts they made which will help us make pristine instruments out of these. We might want to keep our eyes peeled for 6072's too

Good ideas!!! I guess I'll just be patient then......:mad::D:D:D

previously, we had delays between payment and the commencement of fabrication (or at least it seemed that way), including holidays, travel on the part of the manufacturers, etc.

This time, everything's underway, and apparently going smoothly  -- if this continues, I'm gonna be especially anxious during the long trip across the Pacific due to the pent up angst that I had intended to apply to the fab process

[knocks on wood.. but not hard enough to create a leak in the hull of ship]

Just some up to the minute news.
It appears that the ACM-200 more than likely will have an aluminum flight case. I think they are adding this to make ammends for the last minute exclusion of the ACM-300. On another note, the mics will be finished and ready to ship before the pre amps will. They are asking me if they should wait and ship all together, or ship the mics seperately and sooner. I have to check the database to see how many ordered mics only. If there is a lot of "mics only" I might just do that. The pres take longer because they have to make the parts whereas the mics use mostly off the shelf/in stock parts.
On the pres, the metal work, xfrmrs, and pots have been outsourced and are now being manufactured.
My PM box is full. I have been getting messages with questions that should have been asked before your orders were made. I can't change anything now. To those who were asking if there were any extra pre amps ordered the answer is yes but I won't make them available until everyone has their pres. You will then have the advantage of reading the reviews of those who already have them and will be made available on a first come first serve basis
