Hi everyone!

This is my first post.

I am very interesting in mixing, as I'm playing in a funky band and would like to produce/record our songs!

I'm still not satisfied with my mixes, and surely have still a lot to learn.

I would appreciate if you could give me opinions about my work, in order to improve it.

Here is my last one:

Thanks

cheers

Michael

Good bass sound. Very tight playing. The guitar in the left speaker is nice. Not too intrusive but cool.
The vocal could be louder or brighter during the verse. It's fine in the chorus with the backing vocals.

Snare could use more SMACK. A fat crack to punctuate the groove.

There aren't any offensively obvious problems. I'd say that this shows that great performances and good initial sound capture really make the biggest differences between a good and bad recording.

Or perhaps I can't do better with a small home studio?

Perhaps you can't.
You could learn how to though.

This already sounds really good. I'd say that the vocal sound is less professional than other tracks.

Cool song, I think the snare gets lost very easily. The kick and the bass move it all along great though. I think the vocal could be a little louder as well... maybe some parallel compression to fatten it up? I dig it.

Cool groove. The kick's swamping everything a bit. (It's got some timing issues as well, especially near the end.)

I really, really like her voice, but I can't hear it clearly enough. I mean, the panned vocals on the chorus are coming through more clearly than the main vocal. Come on, make it more prominent. It's partly that big low end that's getting in the way, but even if you turn it down or trim its low end a touch, you still have to bring her out more.

Is this a cover? I didn't think anyone said 'groovy' anymore. :)

Thanks for the answer!

It's not a cover, I wrote it. I'm French so I might choose different words than a native English speaker would expect sometimes:)

In your second mix everything sounds clearer and much better. I think you need to bring the bass back up a notch though. Good job, sounds really good.

I listened to the second version.

I thought it sounded pretty good. The instruments all sounded fine to me.

The vocal sounds like it's in a different space from the instruments. It's a bit on the boxy side.

Other than that, I thought this was fine.

Thanks for the comments.

Which one of these 2 mixes do you prefer? :thumbs up:
