green squares?

how do i get more green squares and what are they exactly, i thought they were rep related but i dont think so now....

i guess i just like the color green
 
They are rep related...

Everytime someone clicks your scales and gives you a positive comment, your rep points increment... When you reach certain milestones, in rep points, posts and tenure on the boards, your green chicklets will increment as well..

Pay NO attention to the green squares. When people like DJL have lots of them, you know they are completely meaningless.

A better judge is looking at the join date...to see how long someone has been around.

Agreed, the rep points and green squares have been rendered meaningless by a handful of people in the visitors forum.
 
Yeah I would say look at the join date and post count...you can also pull up all the post for a certain person and see if they are giving correct info.

Agreed. Believe it or not, there are actually threads where adults post incessantly begging for more rep points. I wouldn't pay any attention to the little green boxes at all...at this point, the board's worst troll has more "chicklets" than just about anybody else.

And because I posted this, I've already gotten five "negative" rep points on the above post for speaking my mind. Whatever. I don't care if I end up with a "red chicklet" and 0 rep points - the whole idea of "Rep Point Threads" is so grade-school as to be almost beyond belief. Clearly, the board needs moderators, but doesn't look like it will get any anytime soon. :(
 
when i got my first rep point, i was siked.
when i got my third chicklet i started to get worried that i may get associated with "them".

look, any one with more than 10 rep points (this is a genral rule and thare are exceptions) or 5 chicklets probably dosn't deserve them.

big numbers probably is indicitive of big bullshit.
 
I admit I have an overinflated amount of rep, but I sure didn't go "begging for it." The whole rep point thread was started because one member can't get the rep thing to work. It then turned into a rep orgy and has now become a social thread.

Besides, I would hope someone would judge me by the content of my posts and not some silly little meter that, as Harvey has pointed out, has been rendered meaningless.

I've offered countless times in the past 5 years and have never even gotten a response.

I hear you. At the double bass forum that I help moderate, trolls get tossed within a couple of days (or are encouraged to reform), and it's one of the most useful forums I've ever seen as a result. Keep trying - maybe someone will eventually listen.:)

Another thing that this board could use are some "Newbie Links" type of FAQ threads. These are basically a thread consisting of links to previous discussions of certain topics which come up a lot, which allows newbies to participate in a continuation of the older threads rather than start another thread (ex. - "Best Condenser for $100?) with the same topic. At the same time, the newbies get to read what has already been written before adding to it, at which point they have usually learned enough to avoid the inevitable exasperated "DO A SEARCH" reply from the regulars.

Here is an example of such a thread. Granted, double bass is a pretty esoteric instrument and the forum gets a lot less traffic as a result, but I think the principle would help a larger forum as well.
