Got to use my new baby today for bass.
If I must say it... its great. Rock-radio-in-a-box, plug it in and go. Think Puddle Of Mudd.
More bottom and slightly more overall omph than the RNP. A better overall sound.
Have any of you held a 2NV in your hands? This thing is HEAVY and its solid as a rock. What a piece of work.
I'll post some stuff when I can, and when I actually get to track real stuff with the preamps (should be tomorrow)

Current verdict: A keeper just for the bass D.I.
If the preamps sucked I would possibly consider getting a 1NV just for the bass D.I.
I have a feeling the bands are gonna love it.

Dude,

Wait to you hear it on heavy guitars! Youll think that you died and gone to heaven.

Sweeeeet. Whats the secret? Slamming the input hard and ugly and backing off the input, or vice versa? I think it'll be the slamming of the output myself. Cant wait, as I record more heavy guitars than anything else. Gonna couple it with a 421 and 441 andsee how it does. REAL anxious to get the 441 rolling with it. Should be nice.

Tubedude,

Its actually slamming the input as hard as you can get it. The lower the input the cleaner it gets. And that clean sounds great. By the way, I went looking for posts with "U195" in them, on the mixing clinic. I found a few posts from you. I have to say your mixes sound amazing. Im looking for a new vocal mic myself. Have you recorded any pop or acoustic style music using the U195? Id love to hear a mix if you have.

Thanks
Justin

The next LD I buy is going to be the U195. I was going to get a Lawson L251, but after hearing so many people rave about the U195 I figure they can't be wrong.

Works well with a 421..But...Try it with a ribbon!I love the DI also..

Thanks for the comment on my mixing... appreciated!

The U195 is the only mic on the market that I can think of thats a $2000 mic for $1100 new... I got mine brand new for less, but I cant rem for the life of me what the place was called.

It is an underpriced microphone, very useful. All of my vocals get the U195 anymore, almost doesnt matter who it is. Chicks can be a tad sibilant I've noticed. Its a colorful mic with a character. Its not real clean, but its super clean.... if that makes sense. Great mic. Cant wait to see what the NV does to that signal path.

RNP yes.
The U195 isnt really a "clean" mic as far as transparent and in Earthworks kinda way. Its definately a colorful mic but is quite complimentary to a lot of voices.

I've found the NV to be incredibly versatile in the little bit of time I've had to use mine since I got it. The impedance and xformer loading switches are really useful. Cranking the input level will get you that nice thick colored sound with some attenuation of higher frequencies. However, I often find myself backing off on the input and cranking the output quite a bit too, which seems to add a lot of sparkle and clarity. Its really cool because if you're in a rush and doing vocals or something, you often don't need to audition several preamps and can just dial in the sound you want on the NV. The only sad thing is that now that I have the NV and a Sytek, my RNP tends to be a bit neglected.

Send me your RNP...

Dying to put it to use....

is there the kind of rolloff that might help tame sibilance when you crank the input?

i got me a mp2nv last christmas and i could never go without it now. now i wish i could take it back in time with me and re-record everything i had done before i owned it.
it has given me a much better all around low end that i had never had before. it sounds amazing on kick and snare. distorted guitars love it also. i just ordered a e609 silver from sweetwater, cant wait to see what that will sound like on a 4x12 cab with the nv.

The Silver is a cool little mic, you should like it. If not, I'll take it off your hands. Post your thoughts on it. So far the bass tracks through the NV are spectacular.

when you get a chance, put a kick and snare through it. you will love it.
