good kick sound w/ br-8

has anyone gotten a good sounding kick with a br-8 or similiar console??? i have pretty much everyother part of my kit fine except the kick...it sounds awesome live but after a recording of it...its weak and just a duh...how do you guys get good kick drum sounds???? how about EQ and compression???

I'm assuming that you use two overhead mics, since the BR-8 can only record two tracks simutanously. Place one mic in front of your kick, play around to find the sweet spot and than use place the other mic overhead, again find the sweet spot. Another thought is to buy a stereo 4, 6 or 8ch mixer and sub mix to 2ch, this way you can adjust the EQ.
