Oh, and it has to plug into the 1/8" jack of my Soundblaster and I want it to sound like stereo.

Well, I fail to reason why you keep insisting that Alan should be above letting DJL under his skin. Alan's only human, last time I checked anyway.

Part of the reason may be exhibited in your statement about DJL, “...maybe he's obsessive about it...”

I’d left the “maybe” out of that line and inserted a word like "terribly" between "he's" and "obsessive". It just goes to show how we each see things differently through our own colored shades.

Anyway, looks like now everyone has the appropriate people on their “ignore” list, so hopefully the problem has solved itself.

I do totally agree with that last statement! :)

Good morning all (or at least it is in Aus)

I see this has not died yet. Hmmm

Alan

I have a little more patience (and self respect) then DJL on some occasions. I do not feel it necessary to justify my opinions. They are mine afterall. I'm not a moral police to impose anything on anyone ( if I did my teacher would kill me ( I'm a 3rd dan Karate blackbelt, 2nd dan jujitsu - selfcontrol is a must)). I think Harvey put it very well in his last statement about your product. Its a good tool at the price point, providing a viable alternative to both the pros and armaters, at certain times. Clone this, copy that is irrelevant.
I understand you are passionate about your product and respect that. Thats why we have 4xB1, 1xC3 and 1xT3 in our inventory. It is good to see you stand behind what you sell.
However, noone has the right being a moral policeman. Otherwise there is no point to this forum. If people cannot express themselves freely then the forum is dead. Besides think of all the free publicity PMI got from all DJL's runting. In the end people will not be greatly influenced by a forced opinion and as you can see there is a great number of people here supporting you amd SP line.

Ausrock

We do not advertise on the net yet. But we will. We get work mainly by word of mouse. However the studio is going through a renovation right now (that's why I have time for all this on the net, see also a bunch of questions on gearslutz). We are remodelling as a full surround environment and the studio will be reopened at the end of September (hopefully). We will be the first ADAM equipped surround setup in the country I believe (according to the Aus distributor). Also looking at Soundfield and the SPL Area 5.1 (with all broune mics in the array ($$$$$$ ouch)). If you are still sceptical I will photograph the mic collection (I haven't had that my time in years) and the rest if you like (we have a terrific collection of outboard here) if I can figure a way to attach images here. If you are in Melbourne any time after September, please give me a call and I will show you around and shout you a drink (or a dozen). My numbers are 03 95230635 or 0417356026

Whow, thats a lot of typing

As long as we are going to make stuff up..................oh never mind, whats the point. Anybody here got some sound advice on mic stand colors. Black looks cheap, silver looks pro, but so common. Do you think a boom mic stand looks best against a wood table, or a more modern one. What's the best mic stand to complete the floor plan of a horse stable in mid december.

capenreverb,

Touche! I agree that color has an all too important overlooked role when it comes to microphones and stands.

Speaking of stands.....from where I stand...I may check in to read much less frequently than before now.

This crap is getting old and it serves no purpose that serves me or anyone else that I know of.

You guys on the whole are better and smarter than to let this nonsense continue.

Bye

Are you getting a Soundfield mic or a "Soundfield" type of mic? The mention of other capsules than what Soundfield ships with has me curious.

Bob

do you think that when using a starved plate, cheapo pre that I could tell the diff between a b5 or a c4 or a 603?

What is a "Soundfield Type" mic?
Yuri

A microphone producing four A-format outputs from capsules on the faces of an imaginary tetrahedron. Usually accompanied by a box that can encode these signals to B-format Ambisonics or or derive logical cardioid type mic signals pointing in arbitrary directions.

Bob

Yes, Neumann made a four capsule mic that did this. Can't remember the name exactly - Gant, I think.

Thanks Bob

Anyone else other then Soundfield does these?

Yuri

Not yet. Watch this space. I'm in the midst of the R&D for a low cost Ambisonic mic with host based encoding derived from detailed measurement which is much more sophisticated and surgical than can be accomplished with an external analog encoder.

Very interesting Bob

Any idea as to when or if it will be on the market? Any projections? What does low cost mean, low quality or just more reasonably priced?

Thanks

I'm not working against a schedule so I really don't know. I figure I'm a few weeks from the prototype (if I can stay buckled down) but from there to a production unit is uncharted territory for me. Based on the performance of the prototype I have a tentative partnership with someone who knows those ropes.

Low cost doesn't imply lower quality in this case. The encoding technology I've developed compensates naturally for large imperfections in capsule response and to somewhat lesser degree in the pattern. After encoding the mic will be very flat and it's directional sensitivity surface very smooth. It also gives near perfect coincidence compensation, a problem that has been solved to date with waves of the hand and which drastically affects HF performance. I will be using lower cost OEM capsules (can you guess from where) and the only concession to quality might be in self noise. There are conflicting requiremets on compactness of the array and low self noise.

The problem with this kind of mic is that it is particularly sensitive to self noise because it typically operates in fairly low level sound fields.

The technology is applicable to any gradient capsules that contain an omni component so within reason I can ignore frequency response and pay for low noise which should make even the highest quality achievable at lower cost than we've seen to date.

My first efforts are aimed at the lowest cost product that can demonstrate the technology and still provide a usable SNR.

Strange thread to be announcing this in. :-)

Bob

Very intriguing. It probably should have its own thread. Keep us posted. I'm sure I am not the only one who is interested in achieving 5.1 without spending $$$$$$$$$. The results with sounfield I have heard to date were very impressive. SPL is more of the good thing. KNowing that there is a more economical alternative is certainly good news

Peace, Han

I just spent a couple of weeks comparing my Schoeps CMC6/MK4s with a friend's Microtech Gefell M294s, recording fingerstyle acoustic guitar.

Is this the right place to discuss such a subject? If not, I'm sorry. Please let me know which forum is for discussion of microphones.

so i pull up mu "User CP" screen to check my PM's and i see someone used the reputation feature to tell me to "Shut Up"....will the person that did that anonymously please tell me here in the open so i can tell you to KISS MY BLACK ASS......
