Let me offer another low cost mic for consideration; the Sennheiser 815s.

German-made, built like a tank, neutral-sounding (no low/mid bump or top end hype), comes with a 10 year warranty, and can be had for $100-$110USD for THREE of them in Sennheiser's three-pack, through GC, MF or lots of other retailers.

It's my favorite, "accurate", low-cost dynamic mic.

Most of the old ev dynamics make a fine addition have a look for and RE15, RE16, RE18, RE-10, PL-11, PL-5 etc. etc.

Yo Noisedude! Not keen on the AKG's? I agree with you on D880. Try out a D770- Trust me.-Richie

Sure makes a sm58 clone...its pretty inexpensive. I have one and it sounds very much like a sm58. The only noticeable difference is there is more handling noise. If these mics are put in a mic stand they are awsome for the price. If a singer is holding the mic it will produce too much handling noise.

I think these mics are sure PG58's.

EV RE11. I use that one all the time for a variety of stuff.
EV RE15. Another great one.

AKG D1000: a REALLY good alternative to a 57 on a guitar amp or on toms, or snare. Totally "thwacky" mids from that mic, and it has a CRAZY bulletproof grill that will take a stick hit like no other.

The "egg-static" Microphone. Awesome 25 dollar LO-FI mic that was intended for harmonica, but adds a great green bullet sound to anything, like drums, or small guitar amps. Kind of LO-fi, but amazingly cool when used properly. Also works as a harmonica mic really well (oddly enough).

Any of these can be found on ebay, and I use them all the time, alongside of much more expensive stuff. Really fun, and quality!

Hope that helps.
