Emeric:
You always put up cool tunes :)

The Question: Awsome playing. I have always liked Albert Lee although I am not a big country fan. But, this song wasn't plain country, so I sure enjoyed it!

Gone: Although I didn't dig the flanger at intro and the end, but the rest of song held my attention. One thing that kinda bothered me was the drum...they weren't as strong as your previous songs(playing wise), and the fills were a little too hard panned to my taste. But, that's just my taste. I love the rest of the song tho~
Is there anyway I can get a copy of that 7/8....song you did awhile ago? I can't believe I didn't download that awsome tune.

ps. Do you still build PCs? I would like to discuss a few questions with you thru email if you still build PCs. Thanks

erichenryus: Thanks for the feedback. The squeaks at the end are bit much I agree. The ones at the very start of the song, I don't know - I really didn't notice them much until you pointed it out! They get buried once the drums kick in. Yes the drums are real. Thanks for listening.

TripleM: I get the Lennon comment often (or Neil Young, all Canadians sound like Neil Young!). I listened/listen to a lot of Beatles and the solo projects so something is bound to wear off on me. Agree about the backing vocals, they are too loud - as well as at the end part, think their a bit much. Panning is a bit screwy on them to. Thanks!

A1A2: Never could find that patch for you, I downloaded a bunch more off of Line6.com. If I come across something I'll keep it in mind.

The 7/8 song is still up on the nowhere site, it's called 'Unknown Song'.

The floor tom in particuliar I notice sticks out a bit in parts. I can tweak that easy enough. The phasor at the end could be reduced, but I like it at the start.

I didn't expect comments on 'The Question' I posted that awhile ago and got feedback (not that I mind getting more :) ). My initial intro post was misleading I guess... :)

Yes I still build PC's, feel free to email me with any questions or info you need.

Thanks for checking it out.

Emeric,

Do you keep a fire extingushier nearby to put your fingertips out when your done?
SMOKIN! :D

Really great recording,clean and tight!
Mabey a little more variation on the drum pattern?

Cool stuff!

Best to you,
Pete

You know this song got Marilyn excited!

>ps. Do you still build PCs? I would like to discuss a few questions with you thru email if you still build PCs. Thanks

Yeah this guy builds PCs. And How!

I'm typing on one of them.

Write me with any questions.

No shit!

Almost too good a tune for me to pipe in.

My thoughts - Snare way too high, drums overall a bit high, makes it bloody easy to do beat detection on it anyway. Lead guit tiny bit high, vocals pushed back due to both the above I think. Acoustic sounded a little tiny smidgeon thin. A little more low-end eq would help on overall mix, again, listening flat.

As usual, didn't read anyone elses posts!

As a postscript to my last reply, I learned something tonight. Downloaded mp3 files sound better on playback than streaming audio. This has been screwing with my ears for a while and I didn't know it. I'd play something and things would seem lower fidelity, yet the mix was good etc. Well--doh--that was what was going on--this tune included.

From now on, I download the mp3 before opeining my mouth. It gives a much better picture of what was done. I don't know if this is accurate on all computers and systems, but it is on mine. I just thought I would mention it.

It entirely depends on the player, etc.

However, on NWR, if you are streaming via. Hi-Fi, non-windows media, the data is EXACTLY the same as if you were to download the file, only it is not saved to the harddrive and played.

Windows Media makes a tiny difference in the file header, but not the content or 'frames' of the MP3.

You're probably just fooling yourself unless you are playing lo-fi streaming, or using a different player for download playback vs. streaming.

Waldo--Your comments made me go into iTunes, which I use for streaming audio. In the prefs, I didn't have it set to Highest Quality. So maybe that will make a difference! I'm gonna try it now. Thanks for the info! When I am making comments, I like to feel assured that I am listening to an accurate representation of the source material.

Wow! What a difference! Ah, fidelity again! thanks again, Waldo!

This tune sounds so much better overall!

Sounds good to me too. I also agree with Waldo about the drum-levels. The drums sound very good and youhave a nice wet kick.

Emeric,

Good to hear you back!!

Very nice song, is that your old Guild.

Drums are way to loud, to the point of distraction but well recorded.

Voice way to soft, get it out there man, hell or high water, take your pick.

Haven't read the other comments. Two things. First, it's got a nice structure and it moves *really* nicely, and redoing it right will make it as good a song as it can be.

Second, and this is really interesting to me, cuz I noticed it just recently. You described this one as 'questionable'. Well, if I write a bunch of songs and maybe record 'em rough, or maybe just leave 'em on paper, and then go back some time later - maybe a couple of months, then it becomes achingly crystal clear which ones don't make it. I'm going like: where were my taste buds when I let *that* one through? Plus there's the flip side - it's as equally obvious that certain songs are unquestionable keepers. And finally, there's this even more interesting feeling I get about some songs: 'not quite right, needs rejigging'.

Put this one on the shelf for a month and then take it down and give it a listen. :)

ps - is that the sound of a beer cap hitting the floor at about 1.42? :D

Muzeman: I'll assume you listened to the question. 'Gone' is pretty straight ahead guitaring. Thanks though!

drstawl: Thanks for listening to it!

Waldo: By lead guitar, I assume you mean the melody rhythm thing. I guess with so many votes on the snare being too loud I'll change it. Thanks for checking it out.

GT: That's the old Guild for sure. Drums too loud again. Damnit.. :) Thanks GT.

Crawdad: Glad you got it working. I noticed when checking stats at nowhereradio.com, your downloads were lo-fi, not hi-fi.

Riku: Thanks.

Dobro: It won't be redone, I can't spend anymore time on this one (freaking song is getting 2+ years old) just remixing and editing. I doubt I'll listen to it a month from now :) Yes that is a beer cap hitting the floor, concrete from about 6' in the air and picked up by an ATM 63.

Oh, man. I'm feeling so frikkin stupid! Since I never bothered to determine whats what on Nowhere, I assume the BIG arrows are hi fi and the small arrows are low fi, correct? (Hi, I'm an internet idiot! Do they have a support group for people like me?!)

There's just too much to learn for me in this high tech world. I can only absorb so many instructions, manuals, how-to's, etc. Its amazing I have any time to write and record anymore, just trying to keep up with this stuff.

Please inform me, becuase I want to be listening to the best possible version of the songs. Lo-fi doesn't get it. To much mucky muck. Thanks!

The Question: nice picking. I also think the guitar playing is Steve Morse-ish, and yet has it's own unique quality.

Gone: I really enjoyed it The only negative thing that stood out was the electric guitar playing that note repeatedly at the beginning was a bit too loud IMHO.

You're doing the world a service by sharing your music.

Thanks,
Denis

Is that you singing on the last two songs?
Ya know I always had this theory that John Lennon must have had like 100's of illigitimate kids throughout the USA from the Beatles touring days. And you sound enough like him that you could almost be one of his sons....How old are you?

The drums do seem to be a little too loud. singing is a little off intonation wise. Kind of close but not realy nailing it. Maybe sloppy is the word.

also IMHO it would sound better if you could swap the vocal with instruments in the imaginary space :) another words voice seems behind everything which may be what you were going for.

at the end (4:21...) the guitar is jumping in the stereo field, when you change the chord. sounded a little annoying to me in headphones but might be ok on speakers.

good song, but like someone said you might need to sit on it a little and comeback to remix.

one more thing, the main guitar track just had too much "chicka-chicka" sound for my taste. a little cut in high freq would probably smooth it a little but what do I know :D

cheers

"Dobro: It won't be redone, I can't spend anymore time on this one (freaking song is getting 2+ years old) just remixing and editing. I doubt I'll listen to it a month from now."

Okay, in that case I think you shouldn't put it on the album. I think it doesn't live up to the stuff of yours that I've heard recently. Also, I think the background vocals that start at 1.03 aren't there yet. The rest of it's a good song with a good sound with a too loud snare. :)

Do I know you well enough yet to tell you all that? :D I've listened to it 10 times. My favorite part's this magic little bit:

"Stand in line and take the time to stop... messing around."

Emeric,

Great job again. Drums too loud? Hmmm... I don't know -- I'd say they are well within the error bars.

-AlChuck

Glad you worked it out Crawdad.

a modified dog: It is very Steve Morse'ish / Albert Lee'ish. Two of my favourite guitar players.

Your right, the electric bass at the start is way too loud.

MartyMcFly: Not sure which last two songs you mean. There are no vocals on 'The Question'. Any material on my nowhere site will be me on vocals. No, I'm not one of the 100's of illigitimate kids. hah-hah.

Fed: The drums may be a little too loud. I'll see what happens.

dobro: I agree the vocals are too loose in various spots. Maybe I should retrack at least that. I appreciate your critism.

Thanks AlChuck.
