I'm going to the Cakewalk Users Group in Boston Tuesday night (2/5/02). If anyone has questions (the focus is on Sonar mixing) put it up and I'll try to get some answers.

I'll be there too! I'm a student at Berklee...finishing up in the fall:)

Maybe we can compare notes. I look like this :) (follicly challenged) with a gotee. I'll probably get there early and ask ballbusting questions during the session.

I'm gonna bore you with the details anyway...

Well, the session on mixing was mostly review, but I got this out of the meeting:

1. Aux busses will save on effects (knew this but never used it). Put an effect plug-in you want to use on more than one track into the buss and set your send level on the individual tracks.
2. You can automate your send level.
3. Offset volume (the icon next to the snap grid) is a good way to change your track's volume without changing volume automation.
4. Other things you can automate (not just volume), such as pan and aux send can be grouped.
5. If you have 2 hard drives on your system (recommended) that have different speeds (e.g. 7200rpm, 5400rpm), wave data should be on the faster one. Windoze and Sonar on the C:
6. Cakewalk is getting into some kind of alliance with Intel. Don't know if this will be a bad thing for AMD users in the future.
7. I got a free black baseball cap with the Sonar logo on the front. :D

Hope this helps somebody.

Hey how was the forum man? I went to the parade for the Patriots that day and ended up drinking at the Harp all night. I should've showed up hammered and livened up the crowd up a bit:)

Is the next forum going to be held at Mars Music in Cambridge?

They're not sure when the next meeting is - check the Cakewalk website........I should have gone to the parade! I've suffered so long as a Boston sports fan. Good for you.:D

Diatonic!
I graduated Berklee in Dec 98'.
Had a great time while I was out there. I was just thinking about how crazy Boston must have been when the Pats won the Super Bowl... I bet Landsdowne Street was going nuts... I lived down the street from Symphony hall and The Christian Science Center.

I went to a audio engineer showcase and clinic in my last seminar when I was out there. At the time, Cakewalk was on PA8 and Yamaha had their new O1V board floating around. I'd love to go to another one of those but I live to far away now.

Thanks for the feedback Chuck. Were they giving any clues as to what they are collaborating with Intel on?

World Domination. No waitaminute. That's Microsoft...;)

Sorry Paul. They weren't too specific. How about a card to process direct-x fx independent of the cpu? Like a mini ProTools. That would be cool.
I'd keep an eye on the website. Also, I'm on the instructor's email list so I'll put up anything I find out.

Domination? I think you've got the wrong forum.....oh sorry, I see what you mean:D (you can tell its Friday, A1 MixerMan has already been told off for making us all smile. Well, attempting to:p, only some people didn't find it funny:rolleyes:).

Hmmm....... A seperate Dxi CPU? That would be interesting. Latency a thing of the past?

Will watch developments with interest.
