Participant We gotta work on those assumptions, bud. :D

Uh... :o no shit :o The reason I thought the bass was compressed is... I've NEVER heard a real bass as smooth as that that wasn't compressed. And dammit, it sounded like a real bass to me! :D I guess I'm fired! :D :(

Strange that the guits seem to go about 50% to each side... at least that's what it sounded like on these speakrs. Gotta start listening to your stuff on monitors again... damn... even headphones would have told the panning story better...

And I just assumed you were lying about doing all the vocal parts yourself :D (Sheesh, you should have just lied and said it was your girlfriend :D Some of us would have been jealous ;))

Stratomaster Glad you like the guitar sounds...miking heavy guitars and mixing them has been a challenge for me for a long time. I'm starting to understand it. Thank you.

B.SABBATH
very effective use of the pitchshifting.. You really sound like a girl in that one part!
I know...every time I hear it, I get kinda of excited...and then I realize...oh. I should have the girlfriend retrack it for me before I do something weird.

Guernica He likes it...hey Mikey! Stock on the Triton with all effects cut out. They are programmed note for note (velocitities adjusted as well) then run into Sonar where I do any panning, leveling, and EQ necessary. Each part, kick, snare, etc., is recorded to separate tracks for control. They are not sound fonts.
For now, get excited. Then, when you get your Korg, open it excitedly. Then calm the fuck down and start the rigorous learning process. This will require a bag of weed and a forgiving woman (or no woman at all). Post your first song and watch your magical midi drums receed farther and farther back into your mixes :)

But without a drummer, one can not be too picky, eh?

mbuster ya, you had big balls letting a total stranger sing on your tune, especially when he's not even a singer, or even cool and hip to the latest trends. Dude, did you get a Dell or something?

Sennheiser "You...you hate....you hate me..." Is that the translation of that Ramstein song? I actually liked that song in doses. Or on doses. Anyway glad you dug this. I've been going back and forth in styles lately...from bubblegum acoustic rock to someone-just-shoved-a-tree-up-my-ass-and-I'm-not-really-pleased-about-it sort of stuff. Thanks for checkin in man. :D

i'm not crazy about the bass sound on the clean parts, though......a little 'farty' for lack of a better word, but that would be nitpicking
Actually I agree with you, but you should have heard the track before I rolled off just about everything from 40hZ down. Anything more will expose this track for the bass imposter that it is! (Of course Chad probably wishes I did that now :) )

Lt. Bob That's cool, Steve... I can't wait to read the liner notes :) Thanks.

Participant Actually, this is the closest I've come to recording and mixing a convincing keyboard bass track. I'm very glad you thought it was real. I probably would have too. NOw if I can just get there with the drums too....;)
Strange that the guits seem to go about 50% to each side... at least that's what it sounded like on these speakrs.
I believe this is because the bass is playing the same parts in unison during the heavy verses. And since the bass is very near the center, it's sort of creating a full wall from one end to the other. I did go back after your post and push the gits to 94/97% and it seemed to help a little with that, but it doesn't bother me that much either.
I'm thinking of opening like a horny housewives phone line now that I've fooled a couple peeps with the voice overs. ;)

Thanks for all the help guys!

I figure it's cool to let someone know that you just listened to their tune 'off the clock,' so to speak...

and that's what I'm doing..

yeah...I listened when you first put up the tune....but I didn't want to devote the rest of my evening letting a reply(post) load up, and take forever.

kinda the reason I've been a little slack lately too. When a screen takes longer than a couple of seconds to load up...I'm gone... A couple of ones, I've taken the trouble to listen to, but to reply was toooooo painful.

anywazz...seems I have a 'window' now that things seem to be moving along.

nice tune. typical stuff in your style, and I like the gtr sound. Not sure it is only achieveable by mic'ing an amp only, but I liked the sound very much. Very crunchy "marshall-ish" sounding... without an overbearing amount of fuzz.

You've got a great collection of some songs now... none really in the typical song layout, it seems,...but all very good. Your stuff has become really enjoyable to hear the new stuff you do.... Kinda like getting a new CD of your fav. group (but I don't do that anymore....). The recording shines too. I could tell the pitch shift on the first set of spoken words....but only because I've tried similar stuff and recognize the sound you get. Really changes the quality of the voice. The little "bleeping" synth stuff you got going was my favorite ear teaser. Really liked it.

(hope this page loads....)

OK... what's this about being "blatantly clear"? :p As always, I haven't the slightest idea what the song is aboot... (not like it matters though). :p

I like the mix on this one... like your acoustic (as usual).. it's a little... uh "weirder"... then your usual "already weird" stuff (weird in a good way, of course ;) ). I like how you get such separation in your gits. Nice and clean.

i like that chord at 2:56 and 3:03! what is that? nice change. i don't know why but that jumped out at me.

so this is about killing birds right? i don't have that mental energy required to understand the plot but it sounds great. i really like the electric through the 57. i agree with lt. bob, you got a style all your own.

Certainly an interesting piece of music. Lyrically, there's enough to keep anyone engaged (vs. passively listening). Musically not my cup of tea, but still interesting and engaging.

Lot's of "little things" going on. I especially liked the keyboard part at around 2:16 or so. I'm talking about the part that has the tone about like a telephone ring. Worked well. Good double tracking on the vocals. The panned vox during one of the spoken passages was cool in headphones.

Minor nits... I heard a little weirdness at about 1:43. A punch gone amiss? Just my opinion, but I thought the vocals during the verses were a nudge too far back.

Great job.

Whats that, TripleM?

Very funny. I wasn't sure he heard the first two replies. :D

Actually, the site was acting so snarky yesterday, it didn't appear as if it took my posts. Finally, three of them showed up. Nice of you to give me crap about it though. :D:D:D

sorry, man. Sometimes I mislead myself into believing I'm funny. Then again, If not for misled beliefs, I would have given up on music long ago.

No apology needed. I thought it was funny. I literally LOL'd. I was just trying to be funny as well.

SWEET

sluice-
winded.

yeah, i like this.. adventurous..

cool drum programming.. there's a lot of heart and soul in those old 0's and 1's.... excellent feel on the fills, on the individual attacks on the snare and kick, there's a lot of fluctuation on the individual strikes, makes it way more believable.. i believe this is the way i will have to go to ever get drum tracks that are as precise as i want them..

a tool/AIC kind of feel, but still original from all that....

excellent guitar sounds. a little dark, but when you crank it, it makes sense........ it provides more depth than a brighter sound would, it allows some of the other elements to shine through, even as the guitar is mixed as hot as it is...... very smart.......

keys are a nice touch..... all in all, a very realized sound......
cool tune.

damn!!!!!!!!

man, im freakin blown away!!! you never cease to amaze!!!
arranging,recording,perfoming.......unreal!!! your creativity level is off the charts!! the last tune to strike chord with me like this, was guernica's "miracles" i mean, i have alot of favs from this site, but this tune just sits on an untouchable plain!!! these thoughts are genuine, no smoke blowing!! i will wear this one out!!

thank u for this!!

peace
