"Go To Sleep"

hey there,

I was listening to 'Hail to the Thief' by Radiohead, and i was really interested in what Jonny Greenwood does to make the sound for his solo at the end of the song "Go To Sleep" - its Very hard to describe, but i'm sure you'll know what i mean if you've heard it! i'm sure it isn't synths or something else only possible in the studio, because i have seen a video where he does it live too... he somehow creates a really fast cutting sound, but on just one note, almost as if he's got a noise gate switching on and off really fast

any thoughts?

Both in 1996 and in 2003 I had the privilege of seeing them. In both cases, Johnny has quite an array of freaky toys, oscillating synths and delay/gizmos. I really have no idea, but this has to be a good place to start:

yeah, i was looking at that - i get the feeling that that guitargeek entry is pretty dated though...

and i've decided to try and find my Own way of making my own freaky noises, and not copy someone else - though i wouldn't say no to one of those mutators... i'd still be interested to know any more details if anyone has any ideas?

In 2003, I saw him using one of these a lot on stage (both when playing guitar and not):

i did see him on TV using it with Thoms vocals at the end of 'Everything in its Right Place'
