Ok, i'd appreciate it if I could get a few pointers on how to maybe mix this a bit better. This is my first recording and mix so be a little kind.

I recorded it all on a Tascam 2488 and am currently mixing it in Cool Edit 2.1.

I know it's still a little heavy in the low end, I just want to know what you all think. By the way, this is my brothers band.

If anyone has any ideas of what I should do with the low end, I would greatly appreciate it. To me it sounds like the guitars are competing a bit too much down there and I've brought the bass down a hair and it still seems a bit too muddled, though better. Just a little lost being my first time and all.

Thanks

First time? I'm surprised.

For the low end.. try rolling off 80Hz and below on the bass and 125Hz and below on the guitars.

The mix really seems to lean to the right, too.

Really, wierd? Link still works for me. I was having a couple problems with the site early so maybe they are just having problems.

Thanks for the tip geet. Played around a bit more and it seems to be a lot of extra rumble in the guitar. I guess I could have tracked it better. Got it cleaned up a bit more and I think it's starting to sound pretty good. Once I'm happier with the sound I'll put up a newer clip.

If anyone else has any ideas, I'd still love to hear them.

Thanks

Hey...it sounded like a lot of effort went into this...everthing sounds tight (well-timed and in-sync) and the volume levels seems good (no single instrument sticks out to me as too loud or too low in the mix). I'm not an EQ guru but I found that I liked the overall sound better when I turned my woofer down a couple of notches.

About the music, very system of a down-ish beginning. Then the main song begins. To much of that riff over and over again. Where's the vocals?

Mix:
I agree on the bass, try geet73's ideas.
You need to learn about volume, fullness, fatness, loudness and amplitude dude! You got VU meters for a reason ya know ;) Just in case your wondering what the hell I'm talking about:
- entire song doesn't ever reach 0 db
- more mids on the right guitar, and more punch there aswell, making the mix very heavy to the right side, even though the volume may actually be the same.
- sound very flat, nothing really jumped out, no fills/breaks/tricks/attention catchers anywhere.
