littledog: Not in this case, I checked it out this is a 26mm or 1.02 inch diaphram.

Don't FREAK me out man:)

Sorry Freud if I misled you. I was relying on a review in this month's Tape Op magazine, where the reviewer described it as: "a medium sized diaphragm condenser mic with a fixed cardiod pattern."

Having never seen one personally, I can't say which of you is correct, but I'll assume you are. None the less, there ARE many mics out there today "disguised" as large diaphragm mics, including some by Audio Technica.

I just listend to "What I Need" Very nice!!!

Good high end detail on the vocals! That is "what I need".

Was this recorded with EQ?

I hope I can get good results as well. I am using only a Mackie
SR-24-4 for my pre's right now. It seems to work very well at the moment but it sound like I should at least get a better cable some day and eventually a really nice pre with a compressor on it. I can't seem to use my DBX 266 with out geting artifacts strewn around on my recordings so all of my compression has been post recording with my CW FX pack.

Thanks for the song, one again very nice:)

no problem.

there was only a tiny bit of eq. i used a hpf from the joe meek vc1, and i made a very tiny adjustment on the mids, we're talking half a decibel.

it should sound pretty good going into your mackie, still.

the DBX 266? do you not mean the 286A? if so, ive got one, and have got some pretty good results off it. but i have not tried a 266.

Longwavestudio

The compressor I have is a DBX Project 1 Compressor gate 266. From what I have seen/heard it is not quite the same as a plain old 266. It just seems to be a little noisy in it's operation, you know when the compressor kicks in out out.

I am still going to school on compression though. I am getting pretty good results now with software compression. I wish that this DBX had numbers on the dials so it would be easier to translate from the software to it.

Thanks for your help

well the best advice there is not to go by numbers, but to do what sounds right. using settings from one compressor onto another probably wont give the same result.
oh, i think i knoew the compressor yuo're on about. i thought you were talking about a pre.

ADK A-51

I've got a couple of the ADK A-51's. They're OK for what I paid for them ($200 for a sequential pair off of eBay). It looks like you can pick them up for about $150-175 new retail. For $200, I'm considering ordering a C1 just to see if the hype is justified.

What I've seen of the A-51:

1) Deep male vocals sound good when you take advantage of the proximity effect-very full, very rich.

2) I've used a pair of them in stereo micing a variety of acoustic guitars. I had one about 8" from the soundhole, and one about 8" off the neck at about the 14th fret. Very nice, detailed sound. A little lacking in low end, but that may be a function of the guitars used and the room (my room sucks).

3) The supplied shock mounts and mic clips look good, but are a pain in the rear to adjust.

4) I haven't done any female vocals with them yet, but will probably get some done this week. I'll update the post if I hear anything worth posting.

Without having a V67 or a C1 to listen to in the same room, I can't give my opinions of those mics. However, I'm not unhappy with the sound quality of the ADK's I have.

I agree.

Copying compression settings betweeen different units or even on the same unit but with different audio sources rarely is useful.

Think of it as ordering a custom-made suit, but sending in the measurements of the male model in the ad instead of your own!
