My uncle just gave me a guitar that he got when he was thirteen. He said it is Gibson Viking from 1964. The wood is in great condition, but the electronics and fretboard is shot. I want to fix it up but i cant find any information on it. Its almost like it never existed. Does anybody know anything about this guitar?

The "Viking" was made by Hagstrom, starting around 1965, I believe, and manufactured until the mid-70's.
It was a copy of Gibson's ES-335, except it had more of a Fender-type headstock.
If the neck was swapped out with a Gibson neck, then all you've got is a mongrel "Gibson-look-a-like."

Trust me on this, Gibson never made a "Viking".... it's an old Hagstrom.

Check it out...

I just got sick to my stomach. I had a 1964 Gibson Melody Maker as my first guitar (bought it in about 1978). Looked just like this except with only one single coil pickup.

It looks like these things are going for around $700-$800. I traded it for a $300 acoustic guitar about 7 years ago. Boy was that a bad decision I guess. I’m going to go vomit now. :(

That sound fine. but are Hagstrom's nice guitars, I cant find a new viking, and im trying to find out how much one would be new today. Can anyone help?
