I have an add on sleaze-bay and am trying to sell or trade my 2 guitars for 1 Gibson SG. I had an SG in 1987 and have been searching for that tone ever since. I have a nice vintage 1992 Standard Strat and a new PRS Tremonti SE that I am trying to trade w/ possible cash for an SG. Please someone tell me this makes sense. I love these guitars but long for the tone that my 87 SG had. I didn't want to post the link to the e-bay add here but I do have it advertised in the gear for sale section. Opinions are all I am asking for, someone please convince me I am doing the right thing.

You're doing the right thing.

But only if you know the sound of the SG you are buying is what you want.

Guitars are like cars, houses & wives: you shouldn't get too attached to any one of 'em.

Yeah, right. One of these days I promise I'll sell one of my guitars.

Thanks lpdeluxe

I rarely become attached to guitars, but I really like the 2 I am selling. I have owned at least 12 different guitars since the 87 SG and I have never found that tone again. Damn I wish I still had that guitar!! Oh well I feel better having a second opinion anyway. Thanks

If I were going to get another SG (I sold mine, because it wouldn't stay in tune), I'd probably try to find one from the early 60's. IMHO, they don't make 'em like they used to.

Agreed

The older the better in my opinion, but for me to afford a 60's SG I would have to add my house and car to that add....

Another SG lover here... Flip that selector to the bridge humbucker, turn up the plexi to 4...Heaven on earth.

I had a 68' SG that I got rid of for some stupid reason (likley to eat or pay the rent). A few years ago I bought an used 81' SG that I like (but it just does not have the same personality as the 68' (or at least how I remember the 68')

I hope you have found the SG you want (before you get rid of the other axes you like) it would be a shame to get rid of your axes and then find you don't like the sound of any SG's you can find.

Good point

I am going to Guitar Center & Sam Ash tomorrow to try out the current model SG's to be sure the sound is what I remember. My friend bought one of the SG special faded models and I don't like that one. I think I am leaning toward a standard or supreme.
