What you do get is automated muting which is very handy. You can do your fancy volume automations on the DAW. One trick is to record your mixdown back into the DAW or HDR system. That way you can do punch ins during the mix and can stop at any time to make volume changes. It's poor man's automation.
You can change levels for the verse or chorus and even change all the effects for an intro bridge or breakdown. I'll usually print the entire mix with the verse or chorus the way I like it then go back and punch in the parts that need tweeking.
