Getting vocals onto tape question

So lets say that I have prerecorded music, as in all tracks from the songs recorded onto tape, or CD without vocals. What is the easiest way to get vocals recorded and then mixed in with the music without going through a Tascam and having to deal with tape speed, etc.?

Advice and comments welcome.

Thanks,
Chris

Either rip the CD to stereo WAV files or record the tape into your computer via the soundcard input, saving them as stereo WAV files. Open the WAV files with your favorite audio editing software and play it back while you record the vocals via microphone into the sound card and onto an adjacent track in the editor.

Make sure you get a license before you play back that karaoke music with your voice in any kind of public performance place.

Here's a link to a free audio editor/multitracker called Audacity. You'll still need some kind of a soundcard and an average microphone to get your vocals recorded...

I have the songs recorded all as .WAV files onto the puter, so that part is done. Now I suppose I'll have to find a decent mic that plugs into the computer. These are strictly for home demo purposes..nothing to be officially released, but basically so I can dump it onto CD when I'm done and hand it to somebody and say "here listen to this, this is the general idea."

Thanks for your help,
Chris

Yeah, you'll need the mic to record your vocals. I don't know what kind of budget you have to work with, but if you can afford it you'd be best off going with some kind of simple mic preamp to plug the mic into and then run into the USB port of your PC (m-Audio, Presonus and Tascam all have good ones in the $100-$200 range). Short of doing that, you can run an inexpensive non-USB preamp (from a PA board or mixer if you have one) into the line in of your PC sound card.
