Getting this bass drum sound.

It sounds like a 22 inch, but I can't be sure. That is not an incredibly hard sound to get with just about any kick. Unless the drums that you have feature a picture of The Muppets on the front head, you should be able to get that sound pretty easily. If your room or mic technique is keeping you from getting that sound with the bass drum you have, you will not get it with the newer one either.

I don't know anything about equipment but everybody here is right about the room size. That whole album was recorded in some rubber factory warehouse in Ohio.
 
I have to second the Emad head its just amazing IMO. I can get nearly the exact sound I'm looking for with little to no eqing.
 
pzm mic

you need a thin sounding room(record in the garage) , a dead head (perferably used) and a pzm mic. the pzm mic is the key. It will give your hollowness about six feet away shooting straight up towards the ceiling.
