I am just getting back into my studio project and hoped that someone out there with more experience could help me to avoid any mistakes in getting started.
First off, I plan to try to set up an entry level computer based system.
I have an old (win 98 era) computer and cakewalk sonar 2 software that I have been fooling around with lately. The computer has an on board soundcard and not much ram both of which seem to be giving me problems.
I am planning to buy a bare bones computer. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems the main priorities with the computer are processer, ram and a quality soundcard. The one I researched has Intel 2.53 GHz Processor / 1G RAM and 80G HD.
I plan to use the SONAR 2 sofware I already have. (any issues with this?)
I was considering the ECHO MIA DIGITAL AUDIO sound card or the MAUDIO 2496. (or any better suggestions in the under $150 range) (2-inputs will work for now)
I have been using my CARVIN C844 mixer for a mic pre-amp and using the monitor sends to be able to send 2 channels to the computer. Seems to work ok.
I will likely upgrade in the future but for now would like to try and get some relatively decent recordings.
Thanks for your help.
