Help! This old-lady newbie has just downloaded n-track and
plugged in her mic, and pre-amp and clicked that the Recording
level and the In-Line volumes are o.k. on the computer.
I talk into the mic and I hear it just fine; and the red recording
scribble looks good and when I play it back the green bottom
bar goes back and forth but I CAN'T HEAR IT....what did I
do wrong in the set-up???
Thanks,
very frustrated, Lolly

Good Golly Miss Lolly

Within n-Track,go to preferences-wave devices and look on the left side of the dialog box for where you select your playback device.Your soundcard should be listed there, check it.
If the soundcard is already checked, next place to look is the software mixer (the windows "volume control") under start-programs-accessories-entertainment-volume control.Once there,go options-properties-playback to adjust the levels of "wave" and "volume control".If that doesn't get you hearing the sounds Ok,please post back with more details.

Well, Thanks Tom, I looked at what you said to look at
and I think I see everything looking o.k. but I still don't hear a playback. It has to be one stupid little check-mark somewhere,
doesn't it!

The only check box that might cause this kind of problem I can think of is on your volume control. You can get ther by going to n-track and clicking view on the menu, go down to "soundcards mixer" and click playback controls. You should have a check-box under each device that should say "mute next to it. Depending on the sound card you have, you should have one called "wave". Make sure that the box under it for mute is not checked.

Looking back at your first post,it seems that you can actually hear (monitor) through the speakers or phones the microphone sounds as you are recording them? That sorta proves the windows audio signal routing is all working ok.That puts us back to n-track.Check the mixer fader for your track and the master volume, all in the mixer dialog accessable from the icon with faders on the menu bar.

Well, I tried and tried. I guess I will just give up on it awhile.
Maybe a little BR-8 with me more suited!!!
Thanks for trying, lolly
