getting rid of silence at the beginning of a song

I am sure this question illustrates my inexperience. I can figure out how to get rid of the extra sound at the beginning of a track, but how do I get rid of the 7 seconds of silence? I am sure it is something simple, but I ask for guidance!!!!

use the "Cut And Paste" Cut from 00:07 to 03:00 (or wherever the end of your track lands) and Paste it to 00:00. at least thats how my vf80 works; you didnt mention what recorder you have.
 
sorry, i have the vf-160...

when you do the cut and paste function, 2 questions

1. does it cut and paste all of the tracks?
2. do you have to establish a new program to paste onto??

#2 You cannot paste onto a new program -- it remains on the same one

#1 You can cut and paste all tracks. I would hit "store" then "clipboard in" at about 1/2 a second before the sound starts, then "store" and "clipboard out" 1/2 a second after it ends.
Then rewind to 00:00:00 and hit "store" then "auto-punch in"
Hit the edit key repeatedly until the display says "Move-Clip". Hit "enter/yes" then when it asks, arm all the tracks that need moving, and then hit "enter/yes". If it asks, "sure?" just hit "enter/yes" again.

Depending on how long the song is, the move could take a minute or so to complete. The time remaining display reflects how much recorded material is being moved, not how long it will take...

If upon playback you realize you made a mistake, just hit the "undo" key and you're back to where you were.
