Ok I'm starting to work with reverbs and different "rooms" other than my little garage studio. Going for bigger sound on the drums, take a listen and let me know what you think, is it fake sounding? Any advice on reverbs would be good to know

Why is room in quotes?

My best advice on reverbs is that they are there but you can't really tell, you know what I mean?

When applying reverb to drums, each drum should have the same reverb applied to it. That 80's thunder crack snare sucked then and it sucks now.

All instruments should have the same reverb on them too, so that they sound like they are in the same room.

Watch how much you are appying to instruments that occupy the higher freq range (like cymbals), as it tends to make them harsh.

Now on to your tune:

Just a personal nit, but I'd clean up the intro. Unless you are trying to go for a live vibe, of course.

Everything sounds like it should. Nothing sounds fake to me. I think perhaps the overheads on the drums could come down a hair. Maybe some inventive panning on the instruments. It all sounds up the middle except for the drums.

That's all I can hear. I am far from the expert here, though.

Room is in quotes because the room for the drums sounds nothing like what your hearing. I've tried to create a big room with reverbs and delays, something new to me.

I'll try and get more creative on the panning next time, maybe another guitar would help too. Gotta do some vox as well.

Wow! Got my toe tapping! Nice groove. Liked the guitar, bass, and especially the drums (and I'm a guitar player). Sorry I can't offer any suggestions.

Thanks

The drummer is 17, he's going to university for drum performance next year, hopefully we can keep him for a while!

Snare sounds great! Would you mind sharing the instrument and signal chain?

Cool groove, man, and I really like the guitar solo.

Vocals? :D

Just your typical home recording gear here

This was done live at our practice with a firepod

2 at2021's oh's

sm57 on the snare
- it's an old snare drum from a baxter kit, gated with a cubase gate and psp vintage warmer compression with waves reverb, I also have a vintage warmer on the drum buss, just mild staging

peavey kick drum mic on the kick

sm57 on a peavey classic 30 with a godin sd guitar

Fender Jazz bass direct

I normally use the psp vintage ****er for compression, a little each stage

waves reverbs and cubase delay

used a grunge effect on the drum break

ozone 3 mastering, did a little compression and a little excitation

Thats it

Love it!

The drums are great. Very big, and fantastically punchy.

I feel like the right side of the panning spectrum is a little empty due to guitar more towards left. I'd love for the guitar in the center, but as it is sounds great. Those drums are fantastic. I'm very jealous.

Well done!
