I AM A SONGWRITER WHO PLAYS GUITAR IN A BAND, AND HAVE SOME GOOD MATERIAL THAT I WOULD LIKE TO GET OUT TO A SINGER / ARTIST/ BAND , WHATEVER. WE ARE NOT CHART- TOPPING SINGERS , BUT HAVE THAT GOOD OF MATERIAL , GIVEN TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE. I HAVE MADE A CD FOR OUR OWN BENEFIT , AND GAVE A FEW AWAY ,AND EVERYONE HAS GOOD INPUT AFTER HEARING OUR STUFF. I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COPYRIGHTS AND ALL THAT , TOO. STEVE

I was in Barnes n Nobles the other day and they had a great book in the music section with a huge list of producers and talent scouts complete with addresses and their basic requirements , Im not sure what it was called but I do know that its there for you to check out.

ROYSTON

SO ARE YOU A"SELF - PROCLAIMED GENIUS "?
I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE AS "SMART " AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. YEA , WE HAVE GOOD SCHOOLS HERE AND I HAPPEN TO ENJOY GOING TO MIZZOU, IF YA WANNA GET NASTY ABOUT IT , I CAN , BUT I WILL NOT WASTE MY TIME , BECAUSE I POSTED THIS TO GET SOME "INTELLIGENT " FEEDBACK AND ADVICE . I DON'T NEED AN "ARMCHAIR OR BARSTOOL CRITIC " , I CAN FIND THOSE ANYWHERE . I'M SURE YOUR THE GREATEST MAN THAT YOU KNOW , BUT I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP , THANKS ANYWAY, AND HAVE A GOOD DAY IN HOOTERVILLE. THANKS TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS HAD SOME REAL ADVICE , AND NOT JUST A PUNK WITH TOO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS. STEVE

The Music Business Bible- "This Business Of Music", published by Billboard Publications, explains everything you need to know about copyright, publishing, lawyers,
etc. You can copyright ALL the songs on your CD as a "collection" (cheaper), but if you want to pitch separate songs, you're better off legally with single-song copyrights. Also, you'll need to join either BMI (like me) or ASCAP to recover any future revenue. By the way, anyone who puts down Missouri hasn't been there, and probably doesn't have the stones to say it to your face! Keep pluggin' and don't listen to the "Illuminati".

Hey, Nobby!

Don't take it out on me because you have the worst command of grammar that I have ever seen displayed by an adult. Your original sentence is so incoherent that I can't even read between the lines to understand what you are trying to say.

ps. Try hitting your "Caps Lock" button.

"Don't take it out on me because you have the worst command of grammar that I have ever seen displayed by an adult. Your original sentence is so incoherent that I can't even read between the lines to understand what you are trying to say."

Aside from these both being "run-on" sentences, lacking proper punctuation and any semblance of tense, they hardly signify any 'command' of grammar. Apparently, the schools in Indianapolis teach rudimentary grammar,
but neglect to teach courtesy or tact.
p.s. try pulling your head out before you are mistaken for the worst kind of snob - the ignorant kind.

Hey Repeat Offender, disregard the riff-raff and look for the good info.

Have you tried Taxi. Here is the link for ya.

Hope this helps. Lots of luck.

Hey Royston,
If I use my " caps-lock ", would i be as smart as you?
I sure hope not !Are you an engineer or something , thinking you yourself are the smartest man online, or just someone ( who i have met alot of ) , who will tell you how great they are , all the while trying to fake your way through life ?I found this post-site and found some useful info from some nice, intellegent humans, then there is YOU!(oops.....caps lock messed up again!!!!!!!!!).Thanks for all of your ground-breaking advice, but my 5 year old already taught me more than you could,so i will just listen to what all these decent folks out here.Have a nice day

Your name, "Repeat Offender" is certainly apt, as you have repeatedly offended me every time you unleashed your keyboard. And to answer your question, yes I am a Design Engineer by trade.

Good Day.

Royston

If you are a Design Engineer by trade , then why so hostile?I would usually associate someone of that stature as probably a very mature , open-minded , and professional adult. I was merely asking this post site and the good-natured folks a little advice , then you came off with your "Mo. school " crap , that i don't understand at all. I am a highly educated , self- employed contractor who has wrote a number of songs with my band over the years, just trying to hook up with someone who needs what I have , which happens to be some top-notch songs . I am not a singer by any means , although others think I am good . I don't blow my own horn , I let others decide for themselves .
I usually don't down other peoples work harshly , but after your remarks , I feel the need to get this off my chest . The name of our band is Repeat Offender ,thus the name on the post.
I don't know if you are a recording artist or as I said previously , a self - proclaimed genius , but after going to your site and hearing your stuff , sir , I realize that if you can let other people listen to your material and think ,"Man , that stuff is really good ! " , and honestly ,truly believe that yourself , then i sure don't need a singer !
Your singing is horrific , much too bad to record for playback purposes where someone else has access to it.
Like I said , I don't blow my own horn , but I do sing MUCH...(that caps lock!!!) better than that , and I sir ,am not even a singer.
Sorry about the constructive criticism , but I now feel alot better about the schools in Missouri , and believe you me , you should too.
Thanks JC Lives and Buffalo Bob...for some REAL (....oh , that darn cap lock !) help. There has been some really helpful folks on here , and I got in contact with a few artists and they called me up to discuss some things , so this site is still working. Even with some who work against you.

Dale Earnhardt would have told ya...."There's no I in team ."
Thanks again guys (and gals ), God Bless
Steve

argh

for crying out loud royston. you don't know him, he don't know you, you'll probably never meet. is it worth it?

ON REAL STUFF>

I visited www.taxi.com, and it seems really good, until I realise that membership per year will cost me around 2000 South African rands, and that is cash I would rather spend on equipment (which is really pricy here!)!
Do you have to be a member to submit stuff? (I am guessing this is the case.)
Are there any similar free/low priced services.

also:
I am concerned about my copyrights. If I copyright my songs here in SA, how do they stand legally internationally??

thanks
ns

To, Repeat offender

Your top post, is totally understandable.. I am not a great reader, and my eyesight is even worse... It was all clear to me...

There is a book called Songwriters Market which is published every year. This book lists producers, managment companies, studios, etc. It identifies if they accept unsolicited material, what knid of material they need, etc.

Taxi is a reference group which will accept recorded copies of your material and provide feedback to help you improve your writing skills. In some (I believe rare cases) they may forward your song to a producer/artist, etc. Note: A songwriter who uses my studio did get a song placed in a publishing catalog through Taxi (however it has not actually been recorded by anyone yet).

Unfortunately, these days financial decisions overide artistic desicions. Artists/producers/management prefer to solicit material from known/proven writers and artists try to place their own material to earn the writer royalties.

There are dozens of books which explain the music business (including copyright law, royalties, etc.). The best advice I can offer is - read everything you can (and believe only half of it), get as many people to listen to your material can you can - and be prepared to accept rejection repeatedly with grace, emotional strength and a sense of humor.

hey im from missouri
