I'm going to buy a better mic cable balanced braided sheild in hopes that it will eliminate this (or find a good shrink)
question: What is quad connector? I assume 4 pins on the xlr. can I use those with my regular mic and lexicon (3 pin) or is this a specialty item?
With The Greatest respect cb56, you are thrashing about a bit. A new "better" mic cable will not help if, as I suspect, the problem is RFI since the RF current is running down the shield. Braided shields are in any case not as good as foil, just that foil is not as flexible or rugged (plenty good enough for home jockies tho!)
The ferrites I linked to will likely cost less than a good mic leads, a $ or two in fact.
Do you mean "Star Quad" cable? This is used for long runs in very electronically challenged areas (near big traffs or machines). Not going to help you.
Again, WTGR, you are suffering from classic noobism. You want to use recording gear but you don't have clue one about electricals. Most of the top recordists of yesteryear were technicians FIRST and then learnt The Art. Not for nothing were they called Recording "ENGINEERS"!!
Now! CAN you record the tone and hear it back?..... Please?
Dave.
