I'm new to the board and am sure this question has been asked a million times, but here goes again. I am looking for a keyboard/sequencer to use with a growing home studio that using the computer, a Prodif24 soundcard, the MidiMan Flying Cow, and CoolEdit Pro Software (whatever the latest version happens to be). Suggestions on what keyboard I can get that is best value/money and get out for under $1000? Thanks!
I personally use the MR-76 by Ensoniq which you could probably find one used to fit your budget. As you know, there are so many workstations on the market to choose from. However, with the MIDI capabilities with your software/soundcard, you could forgo the expense of the workstation and purchase a keyboard without the sequencer. Good Luck.
I agree with Lambo that you probably don't need a synth with an on-board sequencer if you have the computer and software. I use a Korg X5D as my main synth to Cakewalk. It's light (about 10 pounds), has General Midi sounds, great organs, elctric pianos, pads, horns and strings. The accoustic piano sounds are fair. Drums are pretty good. I actually use an Alesis SR16 drum machine for the drums most of the time and a Kurzweil PC88MX for my piano sounds. If you want an on-board sequencer, the Korg N364 would be a good choice for around $1,000.
